Carillo rods? How much work to use!! I am looking to get a set of carillo rods. How much work does it take to get them to work. I am building a 1361 probably with 1270 pistons. Compression problems?, etc
Thanks

There's a clearance issue with the starter gear on a 1361 motor. No such prob on a 1270 motor, due to the stock stroke.

Is that all, just shimming out out the starter gear. Is this a big deal or is it pretty simple to do.
SWFT between you an ZHool I would be lost. THanks again in advance.

It is more then just the starter gear. As I recall the rods ouched in three locations.

So how much money we talking about to get the crank or the rods? ground down?
Is it the crank or the rods that need the machining to fix the ouches and the starter gear stuff. I have to replace all four rods so I am looking at wheter I need to go back stock rods or Carillo. Muzzys swears by the stockers when I was on the phone with them earlier.

The main expense would be machining the starter gear. The other spots can probably handled with a die grinder or other such animal. I remember hearing that the stock rods were good upto around 250 ponies. If ur gonna spray it sometime in the future then the rods are good insurance. Even if not since you have it apart, and if you can afford it, I would put the Carillos in it. Better to do it right once then having to do it over again cause you break a rod.

How much machining? Is this an expensive deal. I can get a set of carillo's I just want to know how much more I am going to have to spend to get them to work.
THanks

Velasco did it with a Vertical belt sander and a die grinder

RODS the other major factor with rods in an engine taht is properly
set up is the rpm range... directly related to G loads
example the new motogp motors turning upwards 18000rpm
have a g load in the neighbor hood 7500 g's
a 1 ounce piston Tdc weighs 468lbs
the rod stretches...twists
most race engines Extend the rpm range & gain Good HP
with the stock ECU & the stock rev limit....aint likely
what actually happens if you use forged pistons which
usually are lighter......you REDUCE the G load on the rods
if you increase the rev limit you increase G load
that can be compensated with steel rods
better with Titanium rods.....less weight... LESS G's
the other thing some builders/tuners arent aware of
especialy when sprayin/foggin is the uneven combustion
actually torques the rod.....tries to twist it
all compensated by well made steel rods or titanium rods
much has been gained from twins racing
notably DUCATI turning upwards 13000rpm....
harder to turn BIG pistons & rods......than smaller ones
if you arent going to get wild agressive with the spray
a good set of forged pistons.....rods may not be necessary
