What's my 12R worth? Red 2000 ZX-12R
Muzzy stainless/ti-oval exhaust
K&N filters
PC3R
Smoke ZG sport-tour windscreen
4,200 mi.
Full warranty until 9/04.
New D207s on front and back.
Complete 4,000 mile service recently.
Never dynoed or gone down the quarter.
What's the going rate?
I will miss the big 12, but I am selling it to get a 2002 ZRX1200. I'm just looking for a little more comfort without sacrificing the arm jerking torque of the big bore Kawis that I've grown quite used to. I have also convinced myself that I wont ride the ZRX as fast on the street as the 12R. (It sounds good, anyway!)
Fish, I know this should be in the classified section, but I'm still playing with the numbers and I'm really trying to decide how bad I'll miss the big brute. I'm still very undecided, but I'm trying to get some figures together in case I go for it.

I'll give you two Beaver Pelts, One Racoon Pelt and three Fox Pelts. I might even throw in a few Rabbit furs for good measure. LOL

Good luck getting anything over $8k for it. Better off parting the addons out and selling the bike completely stock. For example
Muzzy Ti= $5-600
PC3r= $200
ZG= $50
Stock bike = $7500-$8k

I agree with TB. I think you'll come out better if you sell the aftermarket equipment seperate. But it's your call, and you may have already gotten rid of the stock pipe etc., if so then you have no choice but to sell it "as is". Good luck , and I hope you come out ok on the deal.
BTW, I like that ZRX too !!! I'd love to have one as a second bike. I saw a dyno chart over on Labusas awhile back and somebody had (jimp???) put a muzzy pipe on, jet kit, and I'm thinkin' added a K&N, and had like 131 bhp and 93 ftlbs. of torque. Can you say WHEELIE!!!! I thought you could. ____________

So true..... Start parting it out.. We could do a bikeland auction , I'll give you $50.00 for the exhaust system (do I hear $60.00) The classified section is very empty anyway.
The NADA and Kelley Blue Book sites information is way off. Not very comprehensive, either. They ask for the year and that's it. There's a whole lot more to a price than that.
I've thought about the parting out idea. It probably is the best way to get the most and it is probably the most pain in the ass way to go, also.
I feel that the '00 models will be desireable simply because of the 220mph speedo. Would you guys agree with that? I know a lot of people spending a lot of money converting their '01 to a 220mph unit.
My dealer will let a green '02 ZRX1200R go for $7,600. I told him I want at least $7,500 in trade which I don't think is unreasonable. He originally agreed and now he is sounding like he is trying to back out of the deal. I know it's a Jap bike and the whole deal with depreciation, blah, blah, blah, but I don't want to get fucked in the ass, either. The warranty until 9-04 should be a huge selling point.
I told him if he can't do $7,500, that I'd just sell it outright and buy the ZRX later. What do you guys think?

Kirk,
If I didn't feel good about the deal I wouldn't do it. Isn't dealer cost of the ZRX1200 under 7k??? I don't know that I wouldn't just sell the 12 outright, and then go deal with cash money. This has always worked best for me in the past.

Well... I know the bikes aren't worth shit right now, but I'm hoping that many years down the road the '00 12Rs in excellent shape will be the ones to have. It was the original year model, no restrictions to remove, 220 mph speedo, etc... Look at what an original '69 CB750 or '73 Z-1 in sharp (and stock) condition will bring now! I'm keeping my 12R and all of the original parts too!!
Maybe you could just keep your 12R and get the ZReX too??

The sad truth Just about any salesman worth a shit, will say when trading in a bike, it's just as well that you try to return it back to as close as "stock" as possible. No matter how nice or expensive the additions or modifications are, they will add no more the ten cents on the dollar to it's value. That is if it will add anything at all. In some cases (when the dealer is really rippin' you off), it actually REDUCES the bike's value.
That salesman should also confess that they will resell the bike for more if the add ons are still on the bike. They profit... you lose. So unless you think you won't get more than $60 for the Muzzy, $25 for the PCIII and less the $50 for everything else, by all means, leave it all on the bike. The extended warranty is a real plus in your favor. Especially when selling the bike yourself. Trade in value will bump up around $100~150 with it.
On the other hand, they could pay more for your trade, instead of reducing the price of the new bike. For example, I paid $11,700 for my 12R (the first one in town). I traded in my 7R while still owing $3000. Book value was $4200, but they gave me $5450. That'd be like getting book for the trade and paying $10,450 for the bike. Of course, they did sell my 7R for $6000, later that same day. Why the do it that way, beats me.
To make matters worse, they have one or two '01 12Rs on the floor right now. If I walked in with cash, I could probably be riding one out for about $9500 and that's with an extended warranty. From what I've read here, that's just a "fair" deal. I've heard of new '01s going for under $9000. If you leave everything on the bike $7500 in trade ain't too bad. He'll be lucky to get $8500 out of it, though. Maybe $8750, at best. Especially if he's got any '01s on the floor now.

I think I'm going to sleep on it. I have learned over the years that if you get in a hurry over things like this, you wind up losing your ass. I'm going to take a night or two to think everything over. I might even make a "pros and cons" list.
I've been going down in the garage a lot more often to look at the bike. I don't want to regret letting it go, so this is really a hard decision.
I truly value everyone's opinion on this...otherwise I wouldn't even start a thread like this.
I'm trying to figure out a way to keep the 12R and still get the Z-Rex. The 12R is almost paid off, so I'm thinking of selling my ZX-6 to pay for half of the ZRX and finance the rest. That won't happen for another year, though. I was planning on getting the ZRX in a week or two.
I'm sure you guys understand what's going through my mind. It's probably the first time I've ever gotten this attached to a material possesion! It feels like the beginnings of an ugly divorce!
Damn the bad luck!
One thing keeps going through my mind...I keep bitching about the comfort level and there are three things I can think of that I haven't even tried yet... (this must be what marraige counselling feels like!!)
1. Heli-bars.
2. Throttlemeisters with the heavy ends.
3. A Corbin or Sargent seat.
do these make a huge difference?? or would I be throwing more money out the window?? more help, please. Thanks, guys.

No, I can't relate... All you rich MF'ers with your "more than one bike dilemmas" can just bite me! Okay... so ya'll might not be MF'ers. Ya'll can still bite me! I can bearly afford the one bike I got (my '89 KDX 200 doesn't count!)!

Hey, Mr. Elk ... I ain't exactly rollin' in dough over here, man! But, I did manage to pay off my '00 12R a couple of weeks ago. Now she's REALLY all mine!! [And I've got the damn title to prove it. ]
Other than that, the only other bike I've got (with an engine, of course) is an '83 Suzuki GS-1100ED. It probably isn't worth much more than your KDX! I need to get busy on that one and put it back together - it's still a neat old bike.

I am definately not made out of money, either.
Single income family man here. My wife is a stay at home Mom watching over our 2 1/2 year old girl and another is on the way! On an electricians salary!!!
I work 40-60 hrs a week doing electrical work and 20-30 hrs painting peoples motorcycles every week just to make the bills.
I got the ZX-12 by many years of careful trading up to better scoots. That's why I'm hesitant about getting rid of it. It's been a long time coming and I don't want to just give the bike away. The ZRX is almost a trade down. I know what the 12 is worth and I'd rather stick it in a corner in the garage than let it go for nothing. I'm that stubborn.
My ZX-6 is in pieces to be polished and painted, so it's going to take some money just to put it back together. The ZRX is so inexpensive that it's almost stupid to not just go ahead and buy it outright somehow. So...long story short, put the ZX-6 back together, sell it for 4 grand, (it's a '93) put the money on the ZRX and only finance $3,600 bucks. It's just going to take a year or so.
So, believe me when I say I'm not a rich guy. I've worked my ass off to get what little I have. That's why it's hard for me to let my 12 go. It makes more sense to figure on keeping it and still get the ZRX in a year or two. I think that's going to be the plan.
