This is the helmet I have Shoei X-SPII. Top quality, great ventilation. I looked at all of them and this is what I bought.

Check these guys out for pricing http://www.helmetshop.com/

HJC AC-10 is the shit! Had mine all summer and loved it. Light, airy, comfy with tons of features and not overly pricey. The Shoei it replaced was a piece of garbage. But remember, it's your head that your that your protecting so find the best helmet that you can afford. you can't afford not to!

i personally tend to think mo0st helmets will prolly give about the same protection. after all, all have passed certain standards testing right? i think what u r gonna pay for is jsut better lining and ventilation more than anything else. but as uv prolly heard a million times b4, buy the helmet that fits best, regardless of what helmet that is. ur head will b better protected & will be WAY more comfy. if u buy an arai just cause its an arai, but it doesnt fit u well, ur a fool! anyhow, seen a few carbon helmets these days, VERY light. if one of those brands fit me well, id pick one up. light helmet definitely helps w comfort.

frEEk I'm in total agreement with you. I read a helmet shootout in sport rider (I think ???) and some of the helmets that were what most people here would turn their nose up at,did quite well. Also some of the highend lids weren't as good as they shoulda been, especially when you factor in the cost. I have personally been wearing HJC helmets for over 6 years and have no complaints. My newest HJC is one of the Azolite LT12 Barrens and it retails for around $230. Excellent lid IMHO, kevlar and fiberglass shell, dupont coolmax lining, excellent ventilation, and a price that anybody could live with. Just my .02

Here are some *inexpensive* retailers available on the web.

Best bet is to try helmets on at a local stealer. Then note the size and order on the web. Make sure the date on the Arais is the same as the one you tried on. (right on the chin strap)

I'm in the process of stripping my KBC down since my get off and I plan on painting it matching silver phantom metallic. It will have Ninja (like the decal on the tailpiece) and ZX-12R on the back, both outlined in white or a little darker silver, I'll post pics when it's done.
Love my KBC

MY THOUGHTS ON HELMETS

BLFY,
Thank you for letting me once again rise to my soap box...

I am going to make this very brief...

I am a FIRM believer in helmets, and ALWAYS where one. To the corner or to TN. It's on my head no questions asked. Now unlike the typical scare tactic I have not had my life saved by a helmet, unless we think my wreak in TN would have been a life ender. The helmet took the scaring and my face and head did not, 400 well spent.

The other thought is that people complain about limited vision. The racers don't have any problem and shit they don't even have mirrors. (OK that was a little one sided).

Finally the law... And for all you that want the government out of your lives I AGREE!!!!
They should not have the right to tell you to where a helmet...

YOUR BETTER FUCKING JUDGMENT SHOULD TELL YOU THAT RATHER THEN BEING HORRIBLE DISFIGURED A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLAR PIECE OF PLASTIC (and other stuff), COULD ALLOW YOU TO NOT TO HAVE SOMEONE WIPING YOUR ASS, CLEANING UP YOUR DROOL, AND FEEDING YOU IF YOU ARE LUCKY.

We all do well over the speed limit on a regular basis and leathers and helmets just make sense.

Bart

Let's Stir it Up!!!!

Saying "Arai, Shoei, Bell or HJC" when someone asks about a helment is about like saying "Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha or Kawasaki" when they ask about a motorcycle.

Get a helment that fits well & has a Snell rating. (Hopefully it will look good too!)

Ummm, he asked about a light airy helmet. If he just asked what was a nice safe helmet, I'd agree with you.
I stand by my previous post.

This is the best reason that I have to get a well made helmet and make sure that it fits well. This damage occured stopping from about 100 mph.

I don't think you would have a face left if you were wearing one of those half helmets!

That must have been one scary ass wreck!

...regardless of what's mandated by the law, I think its prudent to wear a good full-face helmet in the interest of self-preservation while riding on ANY type of bike...if I ever get one of my dream-jobs as a motor-cop, I guess I'd have issues about what they're wearing now (open-face)...the "vision" argument doesn't hold water (look at the head/eye-gear that some of the SWAT gods are wearing)...good post, ballistic...HJC AC-10s are the shit, man!...I love mine...
