Dealer cost on extended warranty

Does anyone know or can they find out what is the actual dealer cost on an extended warranty for an 02 model 12?

You should be able to get the 3 yr for about $300. Someone was advertising them here a while back.

If I remeber correctly, it's somewhere around $290 (back in '00).

when I was at my dealer, I brought up that thread on their computer and told them I wasn't buying their 500 warranty. They said they could do it for 400, I walked out and they chaced me down in the parking lot to give it to me for 300.

How many years long is that extension for that $300 warranty from Paradise?

I emailed Tim, the owner of Paradise, and he said he would sell me a 4-year extension for $450. He said the MSRP on the 2-year extension alone was $440.

So is this a good deal....4 more years for $450? I've emailed dealers in the area to see what they quote me. I'm curious if anyone has gotten a better deal on the 4-year extension or if they know the dealer cost on it?

The 4-year extension is new, for 3 years used to be the biggest extension Kawi offered.

Just thought of something....Tim sure seems like a nice guy. Do you think it's wrong of me to ask the dealer what his cost on it is? Would he lie to me about it?

I surely understand there has to be profit, but I just wondered how low can one go as I shop around.

I've put 12,000 miles on my 12 since June so I think it is wort it since I ride so much. The latter years of that extension is where I think it will save me some money.

It's not a matter of me getting the warranty or not, it's just a matter of the best deal I can get it for.

I went to Kawasaki's webpage, did dealer locator at random spots around the lower 48, and sent an email to at least 200+ dealers just saying I'm shopping around and what is the best deal they can give me.

I blew my motor up at 12,000 miles and it would have cost me $2800 to have the dealer repair it! I would have fixed it myself had the warranty not covered it. Do the math. $306 for 3 years seemed like a pretty good deal to me.

Apparently the new cost of the warranty has gone up. I spoke with them a few months back.
Still at $450 for 4 years (5 total) its not bad.(only $15 more from the previous ones) Im going to do it after the 1st of the year.
Good selling tool when that time comes.
As for "gap" insurance. Why would you pay even more money for your depreciation?
ALL vehicles depreciate and dealers know this. Its up to you to locate and negotiate the best deal that costs you the least.
Insurance is a scam...once you realize this you will become more aware of silly charges and rates that only make insurance cos rich. Shop smart!

I have been getting many responses back via email from numerous Kawi dealers....4-yr ext for as high as 600 in Texas and Paradise is still the best at 450. Second best deal has been 490 out of North Carolina....

So far, I think that 450 is still the absolute best deal....Tim is da man!!

Hey BB thanks for the post and all the hard work.

My warranty expires 11/20/02 so I have to jump real soon.

I'm thinking more in the 3 year range on the warranty. If it doesn't cost much more for the four then I'll go for it.

Having that warranty is more then going to pay in terms of resale of course unless you trade in your bikes.

Hey muzbgreen....I have some competition going on so check this post later. I am ordering Monday for sure the best deal out there. I told them I was going to post the results on these boards and the MC clubs I am part of to help bring them business.

And I pray that I can get this down to $400.

I've only been asking about 4-years, not 3 cause the more problems are going to be at the latter part of the bike's life. I ride mine a lot!

Another thing in case people dont know...your bike has to be under its original factory warranty at the time you extend.

And if you do trade or sell it, the warranty is transferable so it should help on the resale value.

So people email me their awefully overpriced $650+ quotes and I reply back saying I have presently found a better deal at $450 unless they can beat that. Some simply say no, some want me to call them to discuss it over the phone (what's to discuss) and this takes the cake cause its soooo wrong and I wonder if consumers actually buy into this bs:

"Since you have already purchased your bike, and didnt opt for the extended warranty at the time, all Kawasaki can offer you is a used unit extended warranty for 2 years, at $650. You do get a better deal at time of purchase for extended warranty. If you need more info please let me know.

What's covered in the warranty?
And more importantly, what voids the warranty?
Racing? (track)
Certain mods?
Non-Kaw parts?
I know that many warranties that I have seen have so many loop holes for
the dealer that it's not worth it.

Depends on the dealer.Don't tell them you race it or of course they will void your warranty. Talk to the dealer you plan on using.
My bike has been to the dealer twice I think, once for the valve nut recall and when the bitch blew up.I don't trust any dealer as far as I can piss.

From what I understand, it covers everything. However, if you do aftermarket mods to anything related to the engine, that gives Kawasaki a loop hole to get out of fixing things, because the engine has been modified from it's original stock form.

On another note, I hear some of the computer stuff if it goes out is expensive in parts, not labor.

Now, personally speaking, I have full intentions of keeping everything stock on the motorcycle related to the engine. I dont need the extra power, and I like my stock exhaust cause its quiet and cops dont hear me. Don't get me wrong, I would love to get a Muzzy CF full header system right now, but I gotta be happy with what I have.

I get all my periodic scheduled services done on time by a Kawi dealer and I have receipts for everything. I am approaching 12000 miles on my 12 after just 4 or 5 months of riding so I ride a lot. Every dealer says if I leave the engine and exhaust all stock, and the engine goes out in year 4 or 5, and I have documentation showing I did everything I was supposed to right and on time, then Kawi HAS to replace my engine.

My old 750R had 27000 miles on it when I sold it. I am expecting 55000 out of the 12, but I question how far after that it will get. And I will sure as hell be determined to get a whole new engine at that point.

In regards to the racing, yes it voids your warranty. That's why you take off your liscense plate when you race so no one records your bike being seen at the tracks. And dont tell or brag to ANYONE at the dealer or they will use that to void your warranty when warranty work is needed.

All my mods are purely asthetic for my pleasing for whatever reason, or to make it a better ride (like a steering dampener). The clutch assembly went out at 8000 miles and it was replaced for free under warranty.

For as much as I ride my bike and enjoy it, I think it is worth it for me. Just my .02

The Dealers don't have to do a fucking thing. You better know the dealer and what is is not acceptable to them as far as mods.If you are keeping it completely stock you definitely reduce the amount of loopholes the can deny your claim on.
I can't think leaving my bike completely stock would would make me happy. You can never have too much HP. Have you ever ridden a modified 12 to compare it to your stock 12 BeansBaxter?

That is an interesting thread, no I didn't read the whole thing, but at the top was some good advise:

"For best results, consider working with performance-oriented dealerships with a proven history of working with customers."

I would rather find a stand-up dealer and pay more than get some commissioned lawer to twist some stealer's arm to fix my bike only to end up spitting in my burger out of spite.

I guess I've just had bad personal experiences with stealers, as well as the 78023 negative stories I've heard. An off topic example you may have heard happened recently with a ladie's cobra in tx.
