a1 zx12r engine blown

I'm running a year 2000 a1 engine in my lotus 7 style kitcar, I've drinen around 3000 miles with no problems then last week while in 6th gear at around 9000 revs the engine let go,haven't had chance to strip the engine but it has a hole in the casing and looks like no.3 cylinder/piston/conrod let go.I'm running a 360 deg swing pick up sump and know that the oil level was ok,the engine is mapped running 13.1 air/fuel ratio with a power commander.
I've got another a1 engine to fit but was wondering if there are any known weeknesses in the a1 engine variant that could have cased this and before I fit my replacement engine is there anything worth checking or upgrading to lessen the chance of this happening again?
Many thanks Ed.

Is your oil pan baffled? There have been issues on the flat pans in that regard, if I recall. Nox would know the story on that.

more than likely you would have been better off with a deep sump oil pan, like the one coby adams does
theres no real issue with the motor unless the rods dont get oil... which is true for any motor

Ed.....

Get your hands on a 2002 and newer 12 motor, they have better oil channels than the 2000-01's.....Use 100% synthetic oil and OEM Kawasaki oil filter
