Question for Doug

Hey doug...there is a guy on another board claiming that Dave Turner from Muzzys informed him that K&N filters are not recommended for motorcycles.

Now my first reaction to this was BS....but is there any truth to this? *just curious*

No, what we say and what Dave most probably said is: K&N filters are an excellent product, they last a long time, are easily cleaned, and flow very well. THey are worth having for those reasons alone. But on SOME models (ZX-6 and ZX-9) our testing shows that the stock KMC filters work a little better from an ultimate power standpoint, and that on ZX-12's the power increase WITH FILTERS ALONE is not measureable.

FYI,
Last spring I put a set of BMC Race filters on my 12, and verified a 4 HP increase over the stockers.

Yeah, I was under the impression there are a lot of good reasons to have the K&N filter for the 12, but none of them are an increase in power.

I figured as much

Exact quote "Don't waste your time or money. Muzzy will tell you not to use one. They told me but I wanted to see what would happen."

I wouldn't consider no power gain a waste of money anyway. Considering the fact that the K&N is a lifetime filter versus the throw away and buy a new one factory unit. But that's just my opinion.

I remember hearing that before. Funny thing is I installed my K&N's when my bike was bone stock, & there was a REAL feeling of increased power in the seat of the pants. Maybe not very much, but a "feelable" difference none the less.

I wonder why?

Guy's
I put K&N's on everything I own. On my Durango it made quite a difference.
On my Camaro as well. In most cases, though it is because of the airbox changes. On our ZRX it's very important. But on many bikes, especially the 12 there is no change to the airbox at all, only to the filter "media" and frankly the stock filters flow pretty well. We are definitely not "knocking" the product. It's an improvement for many reasons. We are just honest about what you should expect for the money spent.

I run them on everything. With the exception of my skateboard. I tried it on the skateboard power plant and found it decreased power, a gave me a rash around my nostrils!
