Muzzy EMS revisited
Been a long time since I've posted regarding it. Got the exhaust midpipe back from the welder with the bung welded in. That let me mount the O2 sensor and now I'll be able to enable air/fuel ratio measurement and go, in essence, closed loop. *yay*. Of course, I can't test it right now, because the fuel tank is on the race bike. And where's the race bike's tank? It was the donor tank so that the carbon fiber tank molds could be made. Which means that right now, the race bike has two keys, one for the ignition, and the other for the gas tank. Hey, has anyone delved into what tricks it would take to eliminate the key from the ignition loop? On a non-fi bike, it's pretty simple, you just supply the ignitor box with the proper voltage. On a FI bike, there *could* be all kinds of weirdness in there... Just a thought...

bypassing the key should be dead simple. i'm pretty sure the whole lock will be nothing more than a plain contact, unless it's vastly different than car locks i'v dealt with. should be able to just hardwire the necessary wires together so they look like the key is in, and leave it at that. u'd just need to find out which contacts are closed in the "ON" position (ie, acc + on or just on). that would be easy to find in the wiring diagram.
hmm..interesting. i jsut pulled up the wiring diagram and looks like u could literally connec tthe whole mess together and be done with it. accoring to the diagram, when ignition is on, all 8 ports are connected as one. 2 battery (which join to one wire later anyway), 3 ignition (which are represented by only 2 wires), and 3 tail leads. shoudl be deal easy according to that.

Almost all motorcycle ignition locks use an undocumented resistor to provide a particular voltage to an enabling circuit. That's what makes it difficult.

well, if ya don't mind rippin apart the lock urself, u could just take the important parts in their entirety, so any such resistor would be included. interesting idea tho, the resistor. first time i heard of that.

I'd say remove the electronics from the bottom of the key switch.
You could have a key which resembles a flat head screw driver,
epoxy it in place and bingo.
That is IF it comes apart.

I believe that it is either a 9ohm or a 9k ohm resistor in there (did a ZX9 engine install in a race car and recall those numbers). Easy way to find out is put the key in and with the switch in the run postion use a Fluke/Avo/Multimeter measure across the contacts, at the plugs, and see what resistances you get.
