Hammers Route 13OCT Report

Well the day started well, met at Starbucks across from our norm place (Hammer Lets officially change that to the meetin spot from now on). High Diver, and CBRMark Joined us (Thanks Guys for commin down).

Left out to begin the route, was a little fog and mist so weez was just motorin along, come out of our fav hoopty doo's and we seez the big Pestie sittin there filmins us (Thanks John). Continue on the route and it clears up and then warms up pretty fast.

Make out first gas and grub stop at Santa Ysabel. The after a short rest we goes to hit Banner Grade. And oh my there is Pestie again filimin us

Drop down to the valley floor and begin the trek out to Borrego Springs. Nice long straight to strech the bikes legs

Roll into Borrego and hang out and re-vitalize at the gas station/mini mart.

It has been an excellent ride so far. We are all just relaxing and cruising cuz we know the PoPo is suppose to be out, but we havent seen any yet.

So we leave out of BS and head up Montazuma Valley Rd. get through the first set of sweepers and just getting to the first tight section. TReMor (Tim) is leading and Hammer is followins to give him the critque on his lines. TReMor (Tim) enters the first corner (Blind Double Apex) and Hammer is not far behind. As Hammer enters the corner, all he seez is bike parts and two bodies flying by. His mind goes into the NASCAR mode and he doesn't do any target fixation, leans it in a little more and pops out the other side.

As the rest of the group gets through and we all get stopped, we see that TReMor is on the ground but conscious. Other rider is back down the hill face down and unconscious.

We all tend to the two riders, get on the cells to 911 and get help to the scene.

I do not want any speculation injected into what may have happened. We will wait for the accident investigation to be completed so that only the facts are spoken about later down the line.

We get Tim and the other guy (Yoshi) loaded into the ambulance and off to the airport we head so they can be airlifted to the Trauma center.

TReMor (Tim) is doing good, Broken left Humorous, Right Dislocated Shoulder, Broken right Ulna, and a small suit rash on top of his left shoulder from the nylon mesh liner. He had surgery last night to pin and cast his wrist. They can not cast is arm, but it was a clean break and they will just strap it down to his body in a sling.

Yoshi the other rider, suffered major head trauma (heavy concussion), broken left femur (some arterial damage) broken left hand and several fingers, shattered left patella and some other upper body injuries. He had immediate surgery and will be in ICU till at least Wed or Thur.

I or Hammer will keep everyone posted on Tim.

Again do not speculate or interject about the accident circumstances. Well wishes to him are very welcomed and will be much appreciated.

John, the other guy (Yoshi) was from a group that was coming down the grade. Not part of ours.

Chris, Thanks, if you John (your Bro) and Adam can find out where Tim's bike is at and what we need to do to get it, let me know and if there is any dollars involved I can and will cover it.

Well Said, Shamus.....

It happened just as Jim stated....The one time I let Tim lead.....shoulda been me I suppose...

At any rate, I still can't believe I didn't hit something comin through there- was bike parts and doods flyin around me..All I could think of at that moment was "don't be a part of the accident...stay calm and get yourself parked safely...then hurry to help your friend.."
I ran to Tim, and he was in quite a bit of pain, very vocal....the other guy had his buddied stoppin for him, so I just stayed with Tim.
Once we thought he was stable, I made the requisite phone calls to GF, etc..

We motored on over to the hospital, etc., etc..

I agree about the speculation- seems the two sides are divided on this....but I promise you- I will step up for my boy big time! He will NOT be taken advantage of!

He is in good spirits, considering- and I'm sure he will be happy to know his friends here have sent their well wishes.

Thanks All-

Hammer

I hope everyone is OK. This kinda stuff makes you afraid to ride off the track. I am not trying to speculate at all, but I hope the guy coming down didn't cross the double yellow. That happened to me last weekend on Palomar and I nearly $hit myself. There were two guys going up while we were going down and I come around a corner only to find a bike coming right at me in my lane...he was way over on my side. He corrected quickly and bobbled a little slapper and luckily we missed eachother. I hope that wasn't the case here. We need to have fun, but let's save the last 20% for the track.

Tim, my prayers are with you brother. I hope you have a speedy recovery. I hope Yoshi, though I don't know him, has a speedy recovery to and that neither rider has any lingering damage from this. It sounds like it was a real nasty one.

Good grief....I hope everyone's ok and heals up to at least 99%. Also hope they get back on their horses when they're done recovering. That's pretty gnarly. Were they wearing gear (besides helmets), like leathers, etc??

that's freaky. also why I do worry sometimes on longer sweepers. all it takes is one miscalculation.

No need to worry about the sweepers, bro... It's the blind tight corners that you should be worried about.

Both had on full leathers. Certainly saved them from a worse fate..

On blind right handers: slower entry, and more inside (to the right) you should stay. There are sooo many good corners to get knarly on that have good visibility. Be patient on the ones that give you a bad feeling..
Oh, almost forgot... here's to the SoCal guys that are blaming Tim already...

We'll see you all real soon:

Hammer is taking off for a couple weeks- gonna recharge my ridin batteries. I'll be ready to go, with a vengeance on Nov 3rd...my next outing.
If you guys ride the route...call it somethin else until we can go back out as a group again, agreed?

This bitez bad!!!!

My heart is still in my stomach after reading this awfull news. To me it's especially bad when someone goes down hard that's as cool as Tim.

I wish Tim & yoshi both a speedy recovery.

As for speculation for "blames sake", it doesn't really matter, both guys are sportbike riders & thus, are part of my family. When SoCalChuckster went down, we all stuck by him, even though he is the one that went wide. Stuff does indeed "HAPPEN," and what we should all be thinking about after this kind of incident is what we can learn from it so it might not happen again.

I have went wide a few times, and I'm pretty sure most everyone of the faster riders has done the same. If it happens to you, and you get out of it with no incidents, you still have to go over it in your head, and kick yourself a little, then work on being a smooth rider first, then work back up to being a little faster.

JakeMate is correct about leaving 20% for the track (leave room for error), like Hammer- Mille R did when he was riding behind TReMor, that enabled him to make necessary corrections.

GET WELL SOON TIM & YOSHI, SPEED.

PS; Shamless Shamus, did they take the guys to Palomar Hospital?....if not, please let us know where to go for visiting.

GET WELL SOON TIM Best wishes to him and Yoshi. Myself and Jim just got back from visiting him, he is ok, considering. He's gotta good morphine drip goin' on. Yep, he's at palomar hospital. John, we located his bike, it's at the RBS towing building just before julian on the 78. It's inside the other bays, along with Yoshi's bike. We also stopped by the accident location, and it's pretty evident what happened, but we'll wait for what the accident investigators say

Hey Hammer, Take all the recharging time you want. Yesterday was something you never want to see, hear about, more or less have happen to someone your riding with. I know i hardly know Tim but please give him my regards and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

As for the blame game, I haven't read anything yet and was to far back to see who was at fault. I just hope Tim and Yoshi heal up without any problems.

Tim my prayers and thoughts ae out to you and the other guy, hope ya'll make a speedy recovery and can get back up on 2 wheels real soon. and to all the rest of the riders out there, watch yerself. This is getting to be an all to frequent happening. I hate to read about my brother riders getting hurt, and some one said it best when they said, keep atleast 20% for the track, i would venture out and say 30, but that is just me. Having fallen off and been run over by a truck i know how long it takes to heal, and i am too old to go through that again...best of luck to all, and Tim a special prayer for you and our other fallen comrades....take care....Jim
