My day in the SUN! HP/Torque readings!

Hey all! I just wanted to extend a BIG HUGE THANK YOU to everyone on the board who helped me with my (sometimes stupid) bike questions. I just came back from "Super Sunday" in Danbury CT (the Marcus Dairy) meet for all who live in the area. It was a GREAT day - TONS AND TONS of bikes - more than I have ever seen their before. ANYWAY, at the end of the day, I had a chance to Dyno my 2000 '12 for the first time - BOY was I nervous! I didn't want to hurt the engine etc etc .

The Dyno tests were done on a DJ-150 model from a company called Dr. Dyno. Dr. Dyno is located in Pawcatuck, CT. Most of the 12's and Busa's were pulling high 150's/low 160's on the dyno (in fact I think the next most powerful run of the day was 163 or so??). My buds finally convinced me to get the old girl on the dyno and have a go. The dyno guy ran me like 9 times, but here are the 2 runs that he printed out:

Run 7(I think) - Max POWER = 173.1 Max TORQUE = 96.9
Run 5(I think) - Max POWER = 172.9 Max TORQUE = 97.3

He was AMAZED to say the least - said it was close to the most if not the most power he'd ever seen on a '12 that didn't have serious engine work (and then asked me if I did any valve work etc etc). I told him my valve cover has never been off - hell I have trouble just changing the oil (see yesterday's threads...) . Some other guy had a 2000 '12 with an Acro/Pc-IIIr - looked just like mine. He ran 2 bikes before me and got 162 HP. The guy also said that I had the most HP (or close to it - he couldn't remember all the runs) of the day .

Here are my mods for those that care about that stuff:

+ 2000 ZX-12r 4,860 miles or so (GREEN BABY!)
+ Full Muzzy Exhaust
+ PC-IIIr (with fuel/timing map provided via e-mail by Doug Meyer - THANK YOU DOUG!!)
+ K&N Filters
+ Clean Air mod from www.zx-12r.org
+ Motul 300v (15/50) oil with 1070 filter - see yesterday's post - I had the oil filled to 3/4 of the site glass

Thats it for mods - and NO I have NOT done ANY engine work - the valve cover has never been off.

I have copies of the dyno runs that I'll try to post, if I can get my crappy scanner to work. They are on green paper though and are in black and white - no fancy color for me .

THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD, ON LABUSAS ZX BOARD AND WWW.ZX-12R.ORG SITE!!!!! You guys gave me GREAT advice. I lurk a TON and read as much as I can - I try to contribute too, but I'm too stooopid to give good advice :-p . Now to get the Bear stacks.....

Cograts on some good runs and don't worry you are not alone being nervous about dynoing your baby. We have several customers that bring their baby in for dyno runs or mapping that just about shit during the process!! We dynoed a 929 yesterday, the guy had done some nice tasteful mods i.e. the undertail, turn signals, a pipe, PCIIIr, windscreen and some small carbon bits. He came for a custom map. We use the tuning link software for mapping when possible, At 60% throttle he asked if he could have a beer or a shot of that tequila that I had offered in jest earlier. At 80% he was frantic. I brought him in the dyno room for the 100% throttle run so he could witness the totally cherry red exhaust (to the can)typical of the upper throttle ranges. He went from frantic to amazed.

That's funny Z! You should have seen my face on the first run - my buds told me I looked like I was going to pass out. I forgot to mention that the dyno guy gave me 2 sheets of paper. 1 just has the 2 runs on it that I referenced above - it has SAE Corrected Horsepower on the vertical axis and RPM (x1000) on the horizontal axis. The other has SAE corrected Horsepower on the vertical axis and Miles per Hour on the horizontal axis - the top HP on the second sheet reads 185.8 (run 4 I think) - I'm betting that that has something to do with tire slippage though, because on this second sheet I can see that he ran through the gears. When I watch the operator do that, the bike jumped a little from 1st to 2nd (too much power baby!!). Also, the 1st run above (173.1 HP and 96.9 Torque) was with 2 of my friends trying to put "150 mph wind simulation" into the ram air with 2 shifty leave blower things - VERY VERY shifty. The 2nd and 4th runs are just dyno - no ram air. Looks like the ram air simulator ain't very good - or ram air @ 150 mph don't do a whole lot. Not sure which.

Hey - I almost forgot - should I change the oil now, or not worry about it? I JUST changed it yesterday... changing it again will be a PITA.

If it was just three runs, I wouldn't worry about it. We always recommend the customer change the oil after a full mapping session, tho.

Congratulations there Deathpulse.

I think that even with 9 runs on the bike, you are COMPLETELY fine with running that oil a couple of thousand miles.

Speaking of oil....... 50 weight?!?! That was surprising! You'd probably have gotten 174 or 175 with 40 weight or 30 weight oil!! :-D

One way to look at it is that you now have 9 "simulated" street runs at full throttle. How many of those do you normally do between oil changes??

How is Eastern Cycle Performance Alive? I think the pacific north west may be a bit far for me to get a custom map made - sorry/Swft - I would REALLY prefer to have you guys map my baby - but that is a hella trip from Nuke Jersey . Do you have the address for cycle performance Alive, and do they have a good crew/dj 250?

I'm shocked that you haven started the road trip to the NW!!! You would have set a record for us for sure. We have had guys drive from San Francisco, various places in Idaho, Montana and even North Dakota. But New Jersey is a hike and we aren't that good!!!!
