oil light
won't go out on start up.I just had my motor done over and finally got it back.I tried priming the pump by filling the oil filter.I tried cracking the oil filter and still no oil.I haven't put the plugs and coils in yet so I'm not too worried there.When I put the clutch basket back in,I made sure it was engaged with the oil pump shaft.Am I missing something or anything else I can try save checking the oil pump and making sure the pin is in place?

You may just have to put some white lithium grease on the oil pump rotor to induce suction.

I pulled the clutch and crank sensor covers ,turned the motor over manually with a 17mm wrench and the oil pump shaft turns.I pulled the water and oil pump assembly and it looked fine,even had lithium grease in there.The guy who put the motor together for me said he put the unit in as a whole.I normally put the pump in first and then assemble the water pump.All together and still no oil.There wasn't any even when I looked at the pump apart.Only thing left is to pull the radiator and exhaust, then drop the pan.

Now I'm really lost ! I dropped the oil pan and the pick up and rubber were fine.both oil tubes were securely in place.I haven't a clue.

You could try filling the crankcase, removing the oil filter, cap the threaded oil outlet from the filter and then use a shop vac to suck oil up into the filter housing. Once oil comes out, crank the engine without the filter. If it pumps on its' own, replace the filter and start it up.

thanks,if it comes to this,I'm not telling big momma about it!  I'm half thinking about starting it and seeing if the extra rpm's will pick up a suction.

my .02..Do not run engine until light goes out, It only takes a few sec without pressure to f**k things up ..I would pull water pump/oil pump out , pack the rotor (2 pc) with grease, will create suction and install, fill with fluids.....pull the coil connectors and crank till light goes out ........I put mine in with 1 part of the 2-pc rotor and couldnt get pressure of course....Kzscott pointed me in the right direction

I guess you`ve checked the oil pressure sensor to see if it`s working or not????
Now this is scary considering I`m getting ready to split my cases`s to install a new trans....Or am I not gonna go that far to have to worry about it....

The rotor is packed with grease with no luck. I put a tee fitting on so I can hook up a gauge if I want.I'm not looking at the pressure sensor because I still have no oil coming out the filter when burped.Somebody at work suggested sticking a turkey baster down the filter tube to prime the pump.

I had the same issue. The turkey baster didn't seem to help much. If you are nervous about turning the motor over, remove the clutch. Look at the oil pump drive gear. Mine had 2 holes in it. I made an adapter to spin that gear with a cordless drill. That way you are not turning the engine over, just the pump. There will be no doubt once it picks up prime with the filter loose! It worked for me...

I'll tell you, I'm about as frustrated as I have ever been. I pulled the pump again and packed it with grease(which by the way broke my balls as the two shafts had a hard time mating,plus any extra outside the rotor prevented the water pump assembly from going on all the way).I also noticed the bike was tilting forward from the rear stand lifting the bike,so I dropped it off the stand.I also was able to pour oil right from the oil bottle, because it has a spout, down the filter galley.still no oil.I'm tired and aggravated so that is my cue to walk away from it.I just can't believe how much trouble this is giving me! Thanks lowflyer,I'll have to give that a try next.

i think it was redrocket that was saying that if you pull the oil fill cap(or just open the vent to the crack case very well) it will pump much easier

This may sound dumb.... but after a rebuild once the large bolt in the Oil galley in the lower case was left off and 0 oil pressure... similar issue... but the bolt was just missing.... worth a look anyway if you pull your pan again...

I do have a large bolt in the parts bin still and don't know where it goes to.It's just a little smaller then one of the main casing bolts.Where abouts underneath?

Mike are you talking about the bolt to the right and up from #6 casing bolt?

We have oil !!! I had to make a piece to spin the oil pump shaft.After I burped it, I kept spinning it over to get oil to the bearings and was grinning as it came out the shaft the clutch goes on.Thanks to all for the help,I ran out of ideas and this group came through.
