oilchange with crankcast mod

so again my bike would not pump oil without pulling off the oil fill cap. then i had oil all over quick. so for the record loosen taks the cap off first then loosen the oil filter second cause doing it in reverse you have to run around quick to turn it on fast.
ran a while that way till i thought to pull the cap.
smelles like the oil was gassed a bit.

Do you pre-fill the filter?

ive never heard of having to pull the oil fill cap. bleed the filter yes, but not taking the cap off.
i prefil the filter a few times (it goes down pretty slow) and so far havent had to ever even bleed the filter.

I always pre fill the filter and I am surprised by how much oil gets absorbed into that little filter.I have personally never measured the amount but has anyone ever measured how much oil that filter holds while pre filling it?If you realy take your time doing it I would think it would surprise alot of people. My guess would be around a 1/2 qt ,btw I always use the oem filters, nothing else. 2000RR what viscosity oil are you using?Maybe you are using a 20/50 that takes a lil longer to get around the engine when cold??..Just a guess

do you change your oil hot or cold.
I never had that problem with a warm engine.

i will say on pre filling the filter i do not go to the last drop. i treat it like it is the sooner it gets pressure. but when it is unscrewed 1/2" from the gasket sealing it and no oil flow till i relieve the vacume in the crankcase by taking off the oil fill plug then the oil light goes off and i have oil all over.it makes one (well me anyway) say what is the point cause it pumps in to the filter so it being full i do not think would help.

the oil drains back into the pump, priming it so you have good suction when it first starts turning
