My First Official Street Race
Well, some of the fellow riders were feeling jumpy yesterday One of the V-Twin Aprilla RSV riders called out another friend on a R1. Up to the neighborhood strip we go. Usually I don't participate in street racing so I was just watching for a minute. The R1 rip apart the Aprilla, GSXR 750, Gsxr600, Yamaha V-Max boy was his head blown up. He was just talking so much then look at me and said do you want some.
Not to be embarresed by the crowd, I said hell yeah! Before I knew it I was down at the end of the strip. Ready for my first ever street race. In the back of my mind I'm going thru a check list, Ok clutch half out until feel bike trying to pull. Put all of my 160 pound frame against the tank. Watch lights don't blink.
Light changes to green, I let out a blood curtling scream and beat the shit out of that R1. Not just once either we had to do 2 0ut of 3 wins.
I put that R1 guy to shame, he wouldn't even look my way at all for the rest of the night.
Also beat everything else out there.
This racing thing could be very contagious.

we also had one back in my car street racing days at fountain ave. in brooklyn NY...

That's some serious street racing!! Around here, a tree would tip off the police that there is something going on.

the one the guys used was hooked up to a hand truck with a car battery and the lights...duuno how it was done but it worked well...

no shit...the most "frisky" we ever got was thinking about towing those mobile "Radar" platforms out to the races so we could display trap speeds!

Hehe, I remember when I was 17 and people used to race out of the Turnpike toll booths...lol

Big12, its a rush isnt it?
I like to leave at about 7k and let the tire spin a few times off the line while keeping the throttle pinned. Gives you some time to "situate" and get in a full tuck to watch the tach! 
Off course make SURE you black your plate out before hand...you never know who's taping ya!

Hey Voz, I only wish I had a mom that was into fast cars....lol.
When I was 7 or so I wanted a minibike, and made the argument that "Fonzy" had one...lol.
Needless to say my mother was less than thrilled and told me "Fonzie was a hoodlum".. "You dont want to be a hoodlum do you??"
I replied no and she reassured me with "...Good, because ONLY hoodlums ride motorcycles".
Ah the joys of being young and naive...hehe
Im sure she's rolling over in the grave mumbling "Hoodlum" at the last 60 bikes Ive owned..lol

Yeah, drag racing isn't really challenging to me, but I love the competition of the whole thing. Macho bravado plays a big part.
But it is fun to just run with people, popping up the front end to tease 'em! Then blow 'em off the friggin' map!
Turboblew: I don't launch at 7k. I launch at about 4 and let out real quick on the clutch and nail it at the same time. So, using your method I'm assuming you are riding the hell out of the clutch?

Fun ain't it??
I got in a little contest with an R1 this weekend myself. He was behind me coming back from Carson City onto a 6mile straight section through Washoe valley. I'm doing 80ish and he comes blowing on by. I think okay and open it up and begin to gain, he shut off about 200 feet ahead and looked in the mirror and saw me there so he got back on it. Then I just blew around him like he was going backward and I finally shut down at 170ish. Made it back to Reno where he split off and he gave a thumbs up.

I blew by a dude on an R1 myself. Kinda same deal. Once we got into real tight twisties he was on my ass - but didn't get around.
