it's been said many times before, and dave wrote it just above, but i think it helps to remind ourselves that cops r in much the same position as we are as bikers. our "outside" image is horrible, cause fact is there are alot of bad/disrespectful riders. of course we all get labeled as being of that ilk. cops r bound to be no different. most will be decent cops, many will be jackasses, and some will be ideal examples of what they should be (i for one count worm~hole in the latter category). of course, the assholes will have good moments, and even the best cops will have bad moments, no different than bikers. whenever i come across a cop (or someone from any group for that matter), i alwys approach them as i would want to be approched as a biker: with the common characteristics of the group in mind (that cant be helped), but remembering that i am talking to ONE cop, not ALL cops, so this one deserves respect until he/she should prove otherwise. i hate it when someone appraoches me on the bike & shoots their mouth off about how "we" wake them up at night with "our" loud mufflers, so i aint gonna tell a cop "will u make ur quota with this ticket?".

regarding eddy, i'm convinced the guy's got problems. he's definitely got issues in any case, that much is obvious. many of the members knew that already, but we decided to give him a chance. he threw that chance away, so he's not welcome here anymore. there r places where he is likely welcome *cough*labusas*cough*, so he can hang out there.

...one of the most horrible, disgusting, and comical moments in my career (so farz) was when some spineless 'victim' wanted to report that his roommate threatened him during an argument...the 'suspect' allegedly said things to him, though not a direct threat, that scared the shit outta him...literally!!!....and to prove how scared he was, he HAD TO show me the underwear he 'shat'....now bear in mind that the incident happened two days prior and his underwear sat in his laundry...fermenting...for two frikken days!!!!...took me by surprise...I had to quickly and tactically step back as he approached me, stinky burrito in hand..."WHOA!!!...SIR, DROP THE CHALUPA!!!"....some people need help....

An example of the cool cop buddy of mine, he also knows the reality of the game. Here's the email exchange I had with him today about my ticket.

Hey xxxx,

Thanks for the reply. I'm working in Melbourne this week and driving each day, it's a about 80 miles from home to here so the ride isn't too bad. I got a ticket for my tag being in a place where the deputy didn't like it, it's been there for over a year and I've been pulled for other things and no one said anything about it before. He gave me $44 ticket but said it would be $5 if I moved it and got an officer to inspect it within 30 days. He was a big jerk about the whole thing even though I didn't say a word to him.

anyway.........

I moved the tag and now the question is what do I need to do to get it "inspected by an officer" ? The guy wasn't going to be very helpful. I'll try to give you a call when I get a chance. Thanks again for the reply, it's been too long since we've had a chance to talk..

Dave

To: "Dave"
Subject: Re: Hey

I just need to sign the back of the ticket. I don't mind at all. If you are on the bike and you see a cop you can pull up to him and show him that you made the tag legal and ask him to sign the ticket. He will unless he is a jerk. Unfortunately many cops are jerks about it. I know you though and I don't have to see your tag so I can do it for you.

Funny how this conversation plays into the topic here I posted on earlier today.

Ride safe,

Dave

Wor.... What I find interesting with all of the technology in the poice cars these days is you guys don't crash with all of the distractions. And Heaven for bid if you crash. My State Trooper buddies car has eough sharp object to put a hurt on you.

Your comment about attennas is funny. Because my trooper friend makes the same wise cracks as he has 8 is about to get a ninth for some damn reason.

Z...its not too bad if its a 2-man unit...one drives, one operates everything else...it gets tricky if its a 1-man unit (as most of our units are in my department)...yes, there are a few distractions inside the car and crashes are inevitable if you're careful...not to mention painful...

Fortunately, most heed the department's policy about the driver not operating certain equipment when driving...the one's who don't, pay the price...

The problem is we're attaching all kinds of stuff inside and to what is essentially your common civilian passenger car...there's a way around it of course, but it'll cost tax-payers more money ie. a true cop-specific interior with sensible ergonomics...verdict on the possibility of this happening?...HELL NO WE DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR THAT!!!..

So 'we' hedge our bets and hope for the best in a crash...I guess its cheaper to pay for the occassional high medical bill as the result of nasty gashes and broken bones from sharp objects rather than having to lay out the cash for safer equipment 'just in case'...afterall, we don't crash often...it could get you fired...or worse...

Next to anttennas, he who has the most lights and strobes, wins

ps...try monitoring four or more channels at the same time with all the chatter for 12+hours a day....by the time I get to my house, all I want is nothing but quiet...peace and quiet...and a beer

that's fine and all, but what about your time? And the actions of the officer to cite you whenyour friend was the one speeding? I know you were speeding, but not at the point the officer saw you and ticketed you, which to me is abuse of power.
