you'd probably be better off building it yourself. get all the stuff to seal off the airbox from mr turbo, but get a better turbo for your application. mr turbo uses rayjay turbos. they are made for aviation uses, not performance motorsports. on top of that, they are no longer in production. i'm loking at a gt2860rs. it fits the hp numbers i wanna make, and it is designed with performance in mind. spend some time looking at turbo maps and call around all the decent builders in your area to find out what will fit your application best.

Hey B-more,

Rick here has experience with a Turbo ZX-12R that was built up a bit over stock (over 500 RWHP to the back wheel). But whever he got to that HP level (a highly modified Mr. Turbo ZX-12) there was some other problem it ran into.

First things first, if you want 300 RWHP you'll need to build your motor to handle 300 hp. Most would agree stock pistons are not up to the task, at least for any real amount of time. Other things to consider are a lock-up clutch for this type of horsepower as well as other overall engine-integrity issues. It can be done, but it won't be cheap.

Don't forget you've got to have your frame welded up and if your motor has lots of miles on it it would probably be a good idea to give it a once over anyways.

ZX-12 transmissions are weaker than ZX-11s ... so you'd probably need to beef it up sooner or later.

Then there is the fueling issue. You can run 200 hp or so on a stock-ish bike but you'll need to beef up your fuel system. I've pushed 215 hp to the back wheels but my injectors are maxed out and you're taking a chance. Think about all of this carefully...you'll be happy when its all done right. It won't be cheap, nor will it be a weekend affair. If you try and cut too many corners you'll ended up with a poor running zx12...or one thats doomed to blow up soon.

If you wanna talk to Rick about it, he'd be happy to discuss some of the intricacies surrounding turboing a zx12.

Good luck, either way. We have a built 500 hp turbo Busa here at the shop presently...guy wants it detuned for 300 hp so we sent out the turbo to get rebuilt and have dealt with Mr. Turbo in the past.

Sadly, there are not too many current kit options for the 12. As far as I know Mr. Kizer is perty much a one man show with a girl to answer the phone on occasion. Lowfliyer is on the boards here and runs a Mr. Turbo on his 12. He has been to the Texas Mile a couple times and is a real nice guy.

just do a 1270 or 1287. for a tiny jump in displacement, the 1317 isnt worth it. especially considering the price. the 1317 has offset bores, and wont live very long unless you offset the crank to match. the initial price for the 1317 is $2850. for comparison you can do a 1270 or 1287 for half that, with no problems with offset bores ect. if a 1287 isnt big enough, stroke it, dont go with a bigger bore. muzzys 1375 kit is actually cheaper than the 1317 kit, and APE has a 1394 kit.

I got what you need , the 1287 kit and ported head. You just need to get a stroker crank. One thing to think about no matter what you build is what kind of fuel your going to run. To make the big hp numbers you might not be able to run pump gas, just something to consider if you want to ride it on the street.
