Junk POST out of control!!!! What is happening here?! Has anyone noticed that the current movement of topics and post have become very watered down. I previously was more motivated to come here, because of the "MOTORCYCLE" educational and technical post that was the basic content of this site. I even think that i remember a discussion about that......
There are several other boards to post "JUNK", so why don't we allow them to be the place for the "low content post". We really need a place that when we go to it, we can see and "EASILY" find good technical topics of relevance. I now only "HOPE" to find something that is not some personal question poll about whether they should use pink or violet ribbons to match their bike or some other just BS post that are frankly worse than shallow!!!
I call out for those than agree to make this a site of information and not the "zx12 Enquirer". Here lately i have noticed a few folks that simply need to just call each other on the phone or go on a date or something!!! But, i wish the original purpose of "THIS SITE" would return......this was not supposed to be labusas!!!

Unlike LAB, off topic thread or "junk posts" as you refer to them, have a much shorter "front page life". As of right now, there is one thread that is currently on the front page that is not directly related to the ownership and operation of our beloved 12R or to the operation of this site (sticky notes). That would be my laptop thread.
Seeing as how the two main purposes of my laptop are to either gain access to this site or download maps on to my 12R (it has no use as a "work tool" for me), even that thread has some connection to the 12R AND the operation of this forum.
As for posts within the threads that might not be seriously focused on the topic at hand... yes, one could say that they have increased to a certain degree. Hardly enough to believe that the forum is going down the crapper.
I personally have participated on 12R related forums before the 12R ever exsisted (Jeroen's ZX11/ZX12R site & Big Dog's Hayabusa.org). I was the 102nd original member of LAB and had a VERY, VERY MINOR roll in the creation of it's 12R forum. Maybe that is why I was asked to be the moderator of this forum.
At the same time this forum was being created, Dennis (The Motorhead) was also creating a 12R forum and asked me if I would moderate it. Since I had already commited to fish & frEEK, I politly declined Dennis' offer. Now, Dennis had already gain the respect from the forum members of many sites for the "technical seriousness" of his earlier sites. Also, fish and frEEk were basically "unknowns" as site administrators and Dale's site was just starting to take off.
Still, it was this site I personally felt could embody everything the ORIGINAL 12R site of Jeroen's. A key factor in declining Dennis' offer or just staying at LAB's 12R forum was I felt we shoould have a site of our own and not just a forum on a Suzuki related website. LAB's 12R forum was already known as "The Library", due to it's technical focus and lack of BS posts.
The was due to the fact that LAB's 12R forum was basically "self policing". The forum policed itself so well, Ian and Clayton almost never bothered to even vist the site, much less post. They didn't have too. When I came here as moderator, I hoped for this aspect of LAB's 12R forum to be present here as well. I believe it has.
With rare exception, my title as moderator has been just that... a title. Very little supervisory action has ever been required of me, since I have been here. Being the lazy fucker I am, I like that. I can also point to this forum with pride as the world's leading forum for 12R related content and informations. Much of this information coming from some of the most respected sources in the world. There is information on this forum one will find nowhere else.
To imply that this forum has degenerated into a "zx12 Enquirer" is almost insulting as well as inaccurate. In my opinion, of course. You are entitled to have yours and I will always welcome you or anyone else to share that opinion on this very forum. That's not to say that I won't reply to it though.
Early on, we had a slight problem with inapproperatly placed adult images within technically related threads. Though I'm sure that my personal collection of such material would rival anyone's here, my policies concerning it earned me the nickname of "Pastor Elk". There's a "place and a time" for everything here. It doesn't matter if it just something off topic or even "adult oriented".
To expect a forum of such narrow focus as for it's content to be just 12R related topics and nothing else is something this forum will never be. The life long true friendships forged on this forum was not done through discussions of TPS setting and PC maps. It was done through a personal sharing. It doesn't matter if it's Otis' dog, Bart's father, Ted's home or my personal battles with drug addiction. It is this very off topic content that makes this forum what it is. Not the volumes of 12R technical content.
If this disappoints you, I'm sorry. As moderator, I can assure you that I personally will do very little to discourage such posts. As for posting BS comments within mor technically oriented posts, as a long time member of several forums, I can say that this is typical for this time of the riding season and has occured on just about every motorcycle forum I have ever taken part in. To expect something different here would go against the very nature of these forums and their members.
That's just the way I see it. In other words, that's just MY personal opinion and should be taken for nothing more then just that.

Let us not forget that the 00 and 01 models have been discussed, rediscussed and then discussed again. Just about every item, nut, bolt, performance part etc. discussed and rehashed. The 02 model is now in that phase. And it is experiencing the same issue the 00 had and that is the time delay as perfomance and or Accessories become available.
The biggest contributor to the board regarding technical and hardcore 12 specific discussion comes as a result of new members coming on board and the rest of us sharing our knowledge and mistakes.
Can you imagine a board like this for the XR750 Harley? Any changes this decade? no.........
Out of some of the banter occasionally a clue or interesting tid bit pops up that stirs a whole new round of discussions. As long as Elk and the rest can keep the porno to a minimum and the nasty jerks from spewing hate etc. I'll keep coming back.

I was going back and reading all the old threads, a lot of stuff having to do with 00 and 01 models. It was funny to read the first sightings and talk about the 02. Of course I didnt come onboard till I purchased my 02 at the beginning of the riding season. I've been riding for only six years now, and I think my knowledge in regards to motorcycles has quadrupled times six just by the great knowledge I get from this board. I love it, seriously! I learn a lot, and some of you guys, well I wish I had a lot of money to do some of the stuff you do to your 12's. Must be nice, I'm a poor college student, but I can say my 12 is paid off (sigh). I like this board, a lot.

Had a detailed reply, but my computer locked up. So in short, Redelk i meant in no way to offend you about your moderation. However since you commented, if you are going to defend the empty replies and self satisfying post's, then please also defend the post that are regarding getting up discounts or entities that have something to sell for OUR bikes, no matter "where" they post it. Since space cost money, then the "empty content post's and reply's" cost's Fish just as much as a post to advertise. However, let me also say that "oratory" whether written or spoken does not demonstrate authority or correctness.
If no one speaks up about the amount of "junk" that is creeping in the topics, then the posters will feel that it is okay. Redelk, "junk" or "zx12 Enquirer" is okay is what I hear you saying. That is not my opinion, so we disagree.
However the "Library" to me was a badge of honor compared to anything that was and is happening on those busa boards! The fact that it seemed that the educated intelligent post were on the zx12 board and how the members were above the pettiness of the others seems to be scorned at in this discussion. I am saying that I truly think that absolute ignorant responses and comments were previously self policed. I am avocating a renewed consciousness toward the self policing of BS on "THIS SITE". Like it was,,,,,,no porn, profanity, flaming, and STRAIGHT STUPIDITY,,,,,,we already had a site or sites for that. But now a relax atmosphere is present!!! Funny how last year this time everyone was praying to God. God bless the children, God bless the US,,,,,blah blah blah and now the same government and courts works (once again) to remove God from the schools that he was prayed to to bless. This is Sickening!!!!! We are relaxed again....... So we don't need God...so God get out!!! We have covered in detail most topics about the current zx12, so the people that "think" on the board are not needed as much. So it is okay to drown in "nothingness response content". That is until the new model comes out!!! (zx10, zx13)
I thought the library was initially in concept transferred to this site.....?! Isn't that what the original immature battle was between Fish and Easy?!?!

...my ass itches...um, anyways...the way I see it is that 'we' are 12R enthusiasts and we're all just talking here...about anything...cheaper than a long distance call, too!...so maybe we need a strict no-BS technical forum...maybe not...all I know is that its been pretty fluid around here and I like it...if I didn't like it, I'd stop visiting and participating...its the reason I just visit and hardly or don't post at a couple of the 'other' sites...and its not the dark side, either...I like my pals on the dark side ____________ “We sleep safe in our beds because rough men

ra, I sincerly appreciate your comments and I don't feel offended concerning how I (or don't) moderate this forum.
I will also say that though this might be the first (and I hope the last) time I "defend" posts that lack 12R specific content, my opinion concerning individuals selling products on this forum is well documented in several threads.I also believe that there is a difference between individuals selling items and individuals trying to get a group together for a "discount purchase". This is also well documented.
I also believe that the issue of flaming has been kept well in check here. I still believe this forum encourages new members to inquire about aspects of their 12R that might seem to be "common knowledge" to the more seasoned member.
I really have no room to talk about profanity on this forum. I seem to be one of it's greatest offenders.
As for pornography (aka adult oriented material), I think that this aspect is one of the most vivid example of the forum's ability to police itself. My policy concerning this is simplely that it belongs in specifically marked threads and is under no circumstances to be posted in a technically oriented thread. I have never said or implied that one could not post such material. It is the general membership, not I, that has made the choice not to post such material.
As far as "stupid" posts go, it's easily arguable that everyone of my lengthy, blowhard posts would fall into such a catagory. In just comparing the length vs. quality content, would make such an debate viable.
My point is that your comments on this are critical to the continued success of this forum. Your call for a renewed consicousness is a welcomed one. One I'm sure will be heeded by the membership... when they feel it has come time to do so. With long time members like TedG, Y2K, swft, Doug (both of them) and many others (not to mention the wonderful addition of Vincent Hill), I believe your concerns will be addressed.
The most important part is that someone was willing to call attention to what is believed to be misdirection of the forum. Now it is up to the general membership as to when and how it will be addressed. As it was in the original "Library", it's "the people" who have the most control in which direction it will go. Not the moderator and not even the administrators.
As far as the immature battle was between Fish and Easy, it might just appear as immature on the surface. There were many "layers" to that dispute that was not openly discussed. Layers that involved Ian from LAB and reasons why I no long participate on Dale's forums. When issues of clearly illegal activity take place, it can almost justify fish's appearant immature comments. Though in reality, it's extremely hard to justify anything fish does. Just ask princess kiwi!
On the other hand, I am also quite pleased that a 12R owner has more then one site to gain information from. As 12R owners, we are blessed with not one, but three quality sites to choice from and participate in. That's something that very few enthusists of any bike could say.
Again, I welcome and appreciate you taking the time to share your opinion. That especially goes for making additional defining replies. Now, all one can do is see what the general membership does to address it.
FYI to the general membership - though this "Dude" is currently enjoying his new laptop while on a business trip... I hate the fact that I have not an easy way to spell check my diatribes yet!

note also that sometimes an apparently 'nonsense' post is used legitamately to return an important thread to the top.....
by far though this is one of the 2 best boards i've ever frequented for self policing, and for pertinance. not a lot of flaming/bashing etc, and good tech talk mixed with the personal touches that make it human instead of like reading the KHI tech-manual for bikes.

I guess no more joke posts. If this is the case.
Ah hell I can't help it just one more.
The Navy found they had too many officers and decided to offer an early retirement bonus.
They promised any officer who volunteered for retirement a bonus of $1000 for every inch
measured in a straight line between any two points in his body. The officer got to choose
what those two points would be. The first officer who accepted, asked that he be measured
from the top of his head to the tip of his toes. He was measured at six feet and walked out
with a bonus of $72,000. The second officer who accepted was a little smarter and asked to
be measured from the tip of his outstretched hands to his toes. He walked out with $96000.
The third one was a grizzly old Captain who, when asked where he would like to be measured
replied "from the tip of my penis to my testicles." It was suggested by the pension man that he
may want to reconsider, explaining about the nice checks the previous two officers had received.
But the old Captain insisted and they decided to go along with him providing the measurement
was taken by a medical officer. The medical officer arrived and instructed the Captain to "drop 'em",
which he did. The medical officer placed the tape measure on the tip of the Captain's penis and began
to work back. "My God!" he suddenly exclaimed, "Where are your testicles?"
The Captain calmly replied "Vietnam."

Now seriously, what is the minimum thickness necesary for an exhaust gasket to seal properly on a ZX12 exhaust system? I would appreciate the measurement in mm.
