zx12r a1/a2 help needed

Firstly this is my first posting so Hi and thanks in advance for any help.
What I need to know can a a2 motor run from the running rear of an a1 motor,I know the ecu changed for the a2 model but is the engine essentially the same.

welcome to the forum. the motors are basically the same. to use the 01 motor in your 00 you will need to reindex the pick up on the cam sensor to the 00 position(using the 00 wiring and ecu). you can buy a piece just for this, or just grind the little nub off and turn the existing one to the proper position. lock tight the bolt.

How much difference is there in the indexing position I've compared them with both engines and thet look the same,I was assuming the engine I had fitted was an a2 as I'm having a few problems with fueling a thought that if it was an a2 the problems could be caused by the mismatch of running gear,I rang kawasaki uk technical department and they could only confirm that the engine is an a series from the engine number but not weather it is an a1 or2.
Basically is there any way I can tell if it is an a1 or a2 and also can my fueling problem be anything else, the problem I have is that it is overfuelling and running super rich.

check the TPS and baro plug(left side of frame with 10 mm bolt .
If you swapped the engines you easily could have crossed these plug.
IT will cause exactly the problem you have. Try to switch it with the one in the tail section
after you confirm it hooked up right.

been there broke that lol. put the black one on the tps and the grey one on the map sensor. buy a new map sensor, its fried. IF you have them pluged in wrong.
not having the cam indexed will cause it to run very poorly. the bike wont know whats going on with conflicting cam and crank pos sensors

Looks like the engine is an a1 after all,
I need to give a bit more information,I am running the engine in a lotus 7 style car (mk Indy r) that I have just built,I brought a 2000 a1 engine with all the running gear that were off a crash damaged bike, the engine mounts where damaged and I had them repaired, mean while a brought another bear engine that had no running gear but was in really good condition, this is the one that is fitted to the car with all the running gear off the crash damaged one,it appears now that both engines are a1's as the cam is indexed in exactly the same place.
The engine is wired with the bike loom as it would be in the bike but as I said it is running so rich that in no time at all the plugs are clogged,I am assuming that I have either made a mistake in the wiring connections or there is a sensor fault somewhere, where is a good place for me to start to look?

Standard zx12r throttle bobies with foam sausage style filter and standard zx12r fuel pump, bespoke exhaust system 4 into 2 into 1.
Where are the tps and map sensor situated on the loom.
Thanks for all your help up to now.

the tps is mounted right on the throttle bodies on the opposite side of the throttle cables. the map sensor is connected to some vaccum lines connected to the throttle bodies. very close together.
is there a power commander on the bike?

Don't think they are switched, tps is a black plug, map sensor grey plug connected to sensor with 21176-1095 no. on it.
Power commander is now connected and shows throttle position correctly and I assume that it is getting it's signal from the tps.
Had to put some really large negative figures in the map table to get the mixture correct for emmisions test which I am having done tomorrow during an sva test to get the car registered for the road, this was to achieve a fuel/air ration of 14.3.
I have another map to make the car more drivable as part of the test involves it being driven by the examiner, but this still involves large negative figures to disguise the fueling problem.
It is worth taking the car to my local kawasaki dealers for them to connect into the loom and run a diagnostic, will this show up any faulty sensors?
