Battery Troubles Anybody?

Has anybody out there had any trouble with the battery in their 12R? Mine seems to be DEAD! :-( It acts like it doesn't even want to take a charge according to the gauge on my charger. . The bike has sat for a few months, but I wouldn't think it would be that dead. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Was just talking about this the other day. I have finally got around to attaching the battery tender leads, when I went to hook the tender up it was fully charged in 20seconds. My bike has be trouble free in that dept. Maybe its because I ride the bike at least 15mins for every ride, but I dont know. Just pull the battery tray and make sure the connection or fuse hadnt blown.

Battery Troubles?

Are you talking about the 30 amp fuse that is in mounted right beside the battery. What connection could be blown?

YES
I picked up my other 12 a while back and 10 days after i bought it the battery went dead so i jumped it to get home. It wouldnt take a charge at all so i took it back to the dealer. it was a bad battery so they replaced it real quick and i havent had a problem since.

The 12 seems to use a lot of power just sitting there doing nothing.. I dont know if it's the clocks or the ecu or what but I prefer to leave my 12 on charge if I dont use it fer more than a month...

statpower makes avery very nice floating charger that you can hook up and leave connected all winter long... it will charge 2 gel cels in 1/2 hour or 2 lead acid batteries (provided they are the same size etc etc) simultaneously ... very easy setup... I added an additional harness on the 12 and Kiwi's 6 that hooks into the charger........

This charger is about 8x more expensive than a battery tender, and serves slightly more advanced purposes, however if you have the time and money pay a visit to an industrial battery store and check one of them out... with it yer 12 will never go dead ....

I have had great luck with my battery. When I wrecked my bike in the Ga. mountains it was upside down laying down the hill I went off of and when the guys got my bike back to camp for me they tried to start it and told me it started right up. 2 months or so later after Turboblew and Kcadby had taken my bike for me to the shop in lake city. I finally went to take it home. The guys at HPC said will it run ? You'll have to charge the battery before it will start.I turned it on and pressed the started button and it didn't turn over twice before it busted off!

batteries hmmmm...

Well couple of questions? for ya. what year is your bike if it is a 2k1 then you probably got a bad one from the factory. if it is a 2k then how long did it sit last winter, if it was over a month the batteries start to sulfate(it loses the surface area in which the energy transfers)that could be one problem, another One I have noticed before, if both wires are not tightened down securly then it will fade fast and will not charge properly. and finally go and get an Interstate battery for your 12 works great and makes them faster!!!!

I try and go riding at least once or twice a month all winter long just to try and prevent the battery and other stuff from going bad. I also need my fix also. I just replaced the battery in my ZX-11 for the first time a few months ago. The battery lasted almost 5 years. I almost never go on short rides, a short ride would be about 70-100 miles.

...I guess some of us lucked out, so far...and..oh...uh...for when I do go to buy a new battery for the 12R one day, are they all more or less the same?

Battery

Any suggestions where and what kind of battery to put in?
Dennis Kirk and Chaparral both list them.

Hello!!

Come on guys the only battery to put in is an Interstate Battery!!! the cycletron is one of the best on the market, it is reasonably priced for a great product! rember if you buy a JC whitney battery that is exactly what your going to get!!! if you have ever had to jump start or charge your battery you guys know it is not a walk in the park. save yourself some hassels and get an Interstate...

what about a Yuasa? ... and even if you do replace yer battery you should seriously look at hooking up a battery tender or something for when the bike is not in use as the 12 DOES use some power as it sits there...

BTW, do you have an alarm connected? My ducati had a similar discharge prob which turned out to be a incorrectly connected alarm... just a though
