ZX12 weight reduction ideas???
My 02 weighed in full tank 550 lb's
1. hindle exhaust (approximate 9 lb reduction)
2. wheels (marchesini forged aluminum 7 lb's)
3. engine ( 5 lb's lightened crank, counterbalancer removed almost 3 lb's, misc lighter rods,
pistons etc)
4. subframe (cheesed 1 1/2 lb's lighter)
5. Tool kit, turn signals, cut rear fender, reflectors, home made exhaust hanger 4 lb's)
6. light weight rear rotor 1 lb
7. fiberglass front fairing (no head light) no mirrors drag racing 7 lb's
8. cut down gas tank 6.5 lb's, drag seat 1 1b , hack rear seat up under cowl, cut bracket, fairing stay 1 1/2 lb.
9. With modded gas tank only holding 2 gallons therefore 3 gallons of gas less approximate 19.5 lb's of fuel.
Bike weighs in at 484 lb's or a 66 lb weight reduction.
I'm still looking for further weight reduction ideas without turning the bike into a pos.
Other ideas appreciated!!

Horns? One or both? Sound dampening and fasteners behind engine covers? Plastic, aluminum fasteners or zip ties in un-stressed area's, remove rear master cylinder and use a "clear tubing" instead, Keep one fan with manual switch, find battery that is smaller with simular spec's, hmmmmmm.....put a 12 engine in a 10R?!? KZScott, I'm currently running two rotors up front.
CrotchRocket, I'm working on the light guy mod. I was weighing in at a skinny 225 without gear and have since slimmed down to 190.
EastBayDave, Ti axles, brake hanger where to get???
Nox, I love the fiberglass tank idea. What do i have to do to get my bike in the ball park of yours? I'm not sure you have light weight wheels or lightened crank and removed balancer.
Psycho1122, removed one of my horns and have a manual fan switch. Check your pm's please..
Anyone running a lighter battery and if so how much lighter and part no???
zx10 front end lighter than the zx12?
Full fiber glass fairings?

I don't know how crazy you want to get. You have done most of the "easy/cheap" weight reduction mods.
Some of the upgrades you could do on your bike are...carbon fiber or mag wheels, carbon or fiberglass bodywork and gas tank, full ti header with carbon or ti can, ti rotor bolts, axel nut, etc. Have an aluminum subframe made to replace the steel piece(saved 6 or 7 pounds on my bike). None of those items listed are going to be cheap. You are talking thousands of dollars for a few pounds of weight saved if you do all of those things.
Some cheaper things you can do, lose one front rotor and caliper, lose the rear master cylinder and just use a piece of clear tubing. As others have said get rid of the horns, fans, tip over switch, and related wiring if it is a drag only bike.
I'm sure i forgot a few things but that is a start.

Ti axles are available many places, but do a search on ZRXOA.ORG.
The ZRX group has all kinds of lighter stuff for the ZRX; many of which
fit other KAW bikes too. Pretty sure the front axle fits many= zx6/zx9/zx12, etc.
Back axle is specific for ZX12r, but remember seeing it on big
East Coast internet supplier, sorry forget their name at the moment. I
recall they also got a Ti Rear Disk for reasonable price ~$275.
Ti nuts, bolts, all this stuff is available; just gotta search for it.

Yep. The busa subframe is steel. Been a while since I had a 12.
I wasn't sure if the subframe was steel or aluminum. I thought it was steel. Thanks for setting me straight.

No, I don't think its large weight reduction, but it may help the overall
package your doing on your bike.
Lots of ZRX guys doing this to reduce the weight of the ZRX. Here is the
website of a friend of mine on the ZRX site; his business of selling
lightweight stuff to ZRX folks is cool. I believe he has access to light stuff
for other bikes here:

my goof
i was typing dibblin & dabblin & miss a stroke or 2
the CORRECT extrapulation is 1HP Gained for every 6lbs lost !!!!
itsalready been figured out years ago
works out for cars or motorcycles....................... is commonly referred to as
Power TO Weight
strangley enuf weight doesnt effect top end speed much at all
another one is on top fuel vehicles.................you NEVER see those guys tryin to save weight
in fact they know to make more HP they will gain weight
MORE fuel.....Bigger Turbo or Compressor......Biggger Tyres = MORE Weight
the deal there is a positive offset
Nitromethane produces MORE HP the more LOAD there is.....
