Since it's up here again
I have installed SEVERAL PC3/PCRs at my work here (my work is a dealer for them)...
I can honestly say that...we have had 1 that did not work right...out of the box after installation...
Since it was on a Harley...and we stock them for that bike...WE took another new one out of the case and installed for our customer...Tunning linked it and down the road it went...
I have had 2 others...one on a Road Warrier and the other on a VTX...those two...both gave me strange varying Throttle Position readinds during tunning...they were BOTH installed by the customers before I ever saw the bikes...
However...I checked the installations on both bikes and found nothing wrong...The Yamaha owner DID do something that I did no agree with though...which was to hook the groung wire from the PC to the motor instead of where DJs instructions said to attach it...
Since we did not sell OR install either of these units...I told the Customers of my findings (bikes ran OK...I didn't NEED to do that) and told them if they had any "noticable problems" with they're bikes that it would be up to them to deal with the company that they bought them from (or Dyno Jet) themselves...

I do know ONE person that also HAD the Starter Kickback problem on his ZX12 before we installed his 1361 kit...THAT bothered me because... I was worried about how the bike was going to start after I built his motor...
He bought his PC before he knew we existed and sent it back to DJ himself...
They sent him a new one and the bike has started "right" ever since..."RUNS perfect" too!!!

NOW!!! I did have one Harley...that came to us from Georgia to be tunned that the owner had taken to 2 other places for tunning that could not get his bike to run right...when he left the second place...he said he ended up having to disconect the unit on the way home because the bike wouldn't idle...
I made my baseline runs (no PC)...installed his PC and found that it would not idle for me either...the A/F ratio was going looney...rich to lean and all over the place (I never touched throttle) then it would quit...
I tried loading a different map in case the one (the bike shop installed) was corrupt...The PC wouldn't even let me "talk to it"...
THIS is where it gets WEIRD...I clicked on the tab to see the units info and...to my shock and surprise!!! it tpld me that the unit was for a SUZUKI!!! WTF!?!?!?
Trust me...we tried restarting our computer and anything else we could think of for this to make sense (read diff???) and that sucker kept telling us it was for a SlowZuki...NOT a Harley!!!
Strangest thing I have seen here to date...
We had just sold our last PC that was for this model Harley so he had to leave with a PC that would not work on his bike
He WAS happy though (sort of) because...we at least WERE able to tell him why his bike wouldn't run right with his PC...

I for one...would not run ANY FI bike (accept maybe ShowRoom Stock) without a PC3...
I'm not sticking up for them because my work is a dealer for them...this IS just...how I feel...

THAT being said!
I plan on putting fuel injection on my ZRX (that I don't even have yet ) no matter how I have to do it...might be the MUZZYS EMS...I'll cross that bridge after I by it
I'm leaning towards a TURBO for it also
No way I can afford THAT this year though ;(

...I have approximately 26,000 miles on my stock engined Muzzy'd/K&N'd/ /PC3R'd/17t-48t'd 00' 12R...didn't want to start once (@ appx. 18,000 miles after a tankful of freeway cruising in the San Jose heat), but a quick bump-start at the gas station got it going...never had a problem since...and its still running the same map that fish put in a while back...smells like shit, runs rich, and goes like stink...terrible gas mileage (25~35mpg depending on speed, etc.)...don't know if its at optimum levels, though...I wanna get it mapped at a certified DJ center with the tuning link...hopefully it'll get better...

That's why I never bought one...too many people complaining of problems. The bike runs great w/o a PC3R; perhaps a bit lean w/the Akro I know, but I won't buy a Dynojunk until the problems go away...

New issue here is all the local gas stations just went away from MTBE & are now using ethanol instead. Bike seems to be running slightly hotter; anyone else in the Bay Area noted this?

Hey Dave, since the ethanol would have a lower caloric yield than gasoline, how could it be running hotter? Unless the octane was lowered, which would mean that the flame front is traveling faster....I dunno!

Uh....don't know what "lower caloric yield" means; sounds like a diet I should be on...

I'm not sure if it's "really" running hotter. I've been told that engines will run "leaner" on a gas mix of Ethanol than a gas mix of MTBE.

What I did notice since the gasoline change here is the bike "seems" to run hotter slightly (slightly higher gauge indication), & the pipe is discoloring faster than it was before (tip turning blue suddenly.)

It also doesn't seem to have the top of 6th gear "pull" it had before. Maybe my imagination, maybe it needs a air cleaner service or something....it does seem to backfire more too during decelerations.

I need advice....now!

Well, I just bought a stepped Hindle, and some K&N's but I haven't had time to install them yet. I was thinking about getting a PCIIIR??? But now it sounds like more trouble than its worth? How shitty is my 2000 "12" going to run without one? And is there an acceptable alternative? I did hear something about a resistor on the temp sensor wire to "fake" it a bit richer? Does this work, and what resistor, and how exactly does the install go? Help!!! I am all confused now!
Thanks for advice
Ted

Install the pipe and see how you like it.If it stumbles too much for ya then try the resistor mod.470ohm 1/4 resitor inline with block temp sensor(orange wire)

Mine is super dependable, but I have to keep it unplugged to be that way. They scerwed me around with my first one. They had it so long, I finally had to go get it from them myself. It left me stranded 100 miles from home, sorry if they don't admit to finding a probem and fixing it properly, I just can't trust it.

Since I put my PC3R in with Full Muzzy two years ago I've not had a single problem. One thing I did do was mounted it in foam rubber and put it in the space between the tail box and the outer side panel. I figured it would be best to isolate it from heat and vibration. Either that or I just got lucky. I must admit for the price I thought the quality of the unit was a bit mickey mouse. It does work however. The comm link to my laptop and Palm also worked from day one. The unit has allowed me to solve the surging problems of the Muzzy and get rid of the some of the throttle snatchiness and the 4000 rpm buzz. Bike idles fine at 800 rpm. I found all the idle settings way too rich in the Muzzy map.

It's a SMALL percentage that are having trouble...
I would NOT run a FI bike without one...
