Will this damage my tranny?
In late july I got a 2000 ZX1200 with only 6,000 miles a yosh slip-on and a PC III almost new tires all for $1800! It had a salvage title I put blinkers and fairing (A exact match a friend gave to me!) and now it's a salvage rebuild!
The only thing is it will not go into neutral! The guy who sold it to the guy who sold it to me said he had replaced the shifting forks and since it would never go to neutral. A guy I ride with said that it's not uncommon for the 12's to have this problem when the cases aren't put back together correctly. He said it was something with the bearings going into place. The tranny shifts fine and I never have a false neutral.
I hear it is super expensive to have someone fix this. I'm a complete noob when it comes to maintance and I'm biking on a budget so my question is does riding the bike like this hurt the tranny in any way? To be honest I never use neutral anyways! If this is not a problem I will ride it for now and wait until I get the cash to put into it and then have it fixed.
I know I got the bike for a song but at this point that's all I could put into it for now. I'm just don't want to cause damage to the bike now that I've got the best super bike ever made (in my book!)

Not sure, but its not that hard to remove the motor and split the cases. You just have to be anal.............
and prime the pump when you put it back together...........

if the cases were apart, he probly left out the positive neutral finder (3 tiny ball bearings)
R&D Motorsports left them out of my trans. sometimes you want to do a burnout in a higher gear....

That's what I think.
Cases not put together right would cause crank problems very fast.

i agree, very very fast. unless you leave the dowels out or have warped cases, it would be pretty hard to screw it up (unless they dont know how to use a torque wrench or something...)

I have to admit taking the motor out of the frame etc... is out of my league! Of course newton's law My work car just went down (probrably done for good) So the bike will be my only transportation to work for a bit. I will not ride her hard and just wait until tax time and go ahead and pay the big bucks.
Thanks for the info! I will take it easy until I can get her right.

you dont need the positive neutral finder.... im not putting mine back in. you can change the shift forks thru the oil pan if you have to, leave the motor together and in the bike
