HARD black finish??????
OK, after 2 years of sinking every dime on performance related stuff, I am going to do a little cosmetic work, very minor.
I wanna "paint" or whatever the fittings, guards, linkage, etc around the l & r driver's footpegs black. Being that is where my feet are, I figure I need to come up with something tougher than Rustoleum, eh? I'm looking for a black satin finish but don't have a clue as to what tough stuff is out there.
Any thoughts?

Paint them black and then clearcoat. Pending on how rough your shoes are, but think about your swing arm......it is the same aluminun and painted and so are the rims and they last just fine that way.

I talked to someone bout anodizing... Don't remember who, but it was a fairly iffy proposition for the swingarm.
I'll have to get some pics of my powdercoated wheels, as they are glossy black, and look great. Powdercoating has really taken off, and can do any finish in any color these days.

Here's advice from Doug Meyer:
Larry,
Be aware that the different forms of the aluminum in the swingarm (extrusion, sand casting, machined)will "take" the anodizing very differently. You won't get a single "shade" of any color except maybe black. I wouldn't do it. I would(and have)powdercoat. Same hold true with the wheels. The gold you see on "real" magnesium race wheels isn't anodizing. It is a corrosion resistant dip called "alodine". We painted the Marchesninis and Marvics on teh Raptor because the anodizing wouldn't look good or be as durable.

I not doing the arm, just all those aluminum bits around the driver's pegs; shift linkage, peg mounts, the swiss cheesy looking guards by the chain and r brake cylinder, that stuff.
I'm not a detail guy by any means, so slightly different shades of black are ok. not desired but I would not pitch a fit.
The paint on the arm does indeed hold up well and look good, but nothing much is normally rubbing on it. I like the gray of the arm (rustoleum!)
thanks for yr help!

There is also a product called plasticoating. The powdercoating industry is starting to do also. It looks like powdercoat except the material is plastic and provide a good wear surface that doesn't scratch etc. you might ask about it. I have a business partner that has started doing this in the Northwest.
