I'm not sure about his but DOT says the modulation must stopped after dark so a sensor is required.

There is a sensor, actually. I have it mounted on the bottom of my fairing, aiming out onto the road in front of me at about a 45 degree angle. THe only thing I odn't like about that is that when I go into trees or next to a semi the modulator stops until I get to the other side.
Oh, and sorry 'bout that Muzbgreen...didn't mean to offend ya by confusing the two of ya.

The modulator I had for a while before it crapped out had a photocell that would cut it off at dark. Pretty effecitve too, I've had it cut off going under very wide bridges.
