1st ride with Muzzy EMS

Took the 1347 to the track today. Made a couple runs. Man, that wheelie bar spoils ya! I had a real problem keeping the nose down in 1st and 2nd gear. Was alright tho, was there to check out the fueling and throttle response. Don't know if I mentioned it, but Rob Muzzy got on the phone and helped me set up the EMS for the 1347 motor. The first thing that I noticed was just how *crisp* the throttle response was. No more weird lil stumbles, no surging. Absolute knife edge response. The best FI I've felt on a bike yet. And of course, the big question, is there any on-off throttle weirdness going on? Nope, not a bit! If you roll off from say, one third throttle back to a quarter, it simply reduces power to the appropriate amount. I've still got a few things I want to check out, but I'm *very* tempted to go roadracing with an EMS equipped bike. As it is, I really look forward to October!

Swft, that is GREAT news!!!! I'm VERY psyched about this... this may be a mod that I get into this winter. Do you have the closed loop system on now?

Don't have the closed loop going yet. Have the four wire Bosch sensor sitting inna box, just gotta get the bung welded on the midpipe. Then I'm ready for Bonneville! After Bonneville, I'll wire up the shift light, shift cut, and two step switch for launch control. Put the wheelie bars back on and go drag racing.

I made a pass on Swft's bike too. The throttle response is spot on. Crisp in a word. Very electric in a sense. I was impressed. BUt I still have to say, based on what I have seen, you had better have a lot of patience and be a techno guy to install the system.

No doubt! Ton of stuff to change. The biggest bitch I had was having to use a pair of dual output coils in place of the stock coils. Had to figure out a mounting system for them, etc...

What's complete? The way I see it, it could be installed with the bare minimum to get it working, or you could go closed loop. Or there's the drag racer's special #1, with shift lite, shift cut, two step switch, aux output1 to nitrous. Drag racer's special #2 would be the same as above, but turbo boost control vice nitrous.

Good question! I don't think you'll find the info on Muzzy's site. Let's go to dtafast.co.uk and check it out:

I think the words you are looking for are

Full turbo pressure control variable by RPM with overboost protection

Took a look at the datalog feature this morning. 100msec interval captures. Keeps track of all the important stuff, rpm, injector cycle, throttle position, temps, pressures, a/f ratio, etc. Nice!

Took the bike to work today. Wow! My current gearing is 17/48. Combined with the absolutely razor-sharp throttle response of the EMS, the bike was a blast to ride. Absolutely controllable, but incredibly, undeniably powerful. Brutal, brutal, brutal accelleration, but unlike a PCIII/IIIR equipped bike with the same mods, absolutely controllable.

Cowboy- There is a boost control function, however if you are looking for staged control for drag racing there are other options. Contact MUZZYS for more info.

Great news, Rob. I'm considering buying a second harness and using the EMS on the roadracing bike. The bottom end pickup is about a zillion percent better than stock!

Just checked the site, didn't see a 'kit' yet. Based on my experience, the kit would need to include the following at a minimum:

Muzzy EMS
1. EMS Harness for ZX12R
2. Dual Output coils
3. Sensors, 1 for intake air temp, 1 for water temp
4. Crankshaft ignition rotor
5. Spark plug wires
6. Comm cable for laptop

Additional goodies

1. O2 bung
2. Bosch 4 wire O2 sensor
3. 2 step switch
4. Shift kill switch
5. Shift lite
