is this bike that much faster???!!
I went riding with a friend that has a 2000 R1. It has a slip on yosh pipe. He took off and then I decided to catch him. I had no problem not only catching him but blew past him.
Then I went riding with a group a couple of R1's and a Gixxer 750 with loads of motor work done and also a 2005 gixxer 1000 and a 97 900rr.
I know in this case it's not the rider. I'm a complete begginner when it comes to riding. I don't have alot of experience riding so I know I suck as a rider. But when we hit the open road I would leave them pretty easily! After the ride alot of them was asking "what is that?"
Is the 12 that much more dominate ? I was expecting much more from the 1000's. my bike is not bone stock it's 2000 zx12 with a pc III and yosh slip on. Do you guys have the same experience?
I can't believe how stable this bike is at high speeds! I had a old school gixxer 1100 and at 150 it was like the old sci-fi star ships at top speeds, shaking and very unstable. The 12 seems to be asking for more! This bike can make a person wreckless and dangerous! It makes you wonder just want it can do. Of course my better judgment does take over but man !

I'm sure everyone here gets that feeling when out with other riders. I let em' have it occasionaly on the highway. But I love passing a pack of them up in the Mountain's every weekend. I know thats all rider experience up there but the power I have coming out of the corners and running up the hills just towers over all of the smaller bikes.

i get that too when im out tearin up the streets. people alwayz ask what im ridin with awww... cause its such a beast!!!!!!. i ride a 2000 zx12 with fully muzzys exaust K&N air filter power commander 3 and i jus installed NITROUS havent hit it yet but cant wait

I picked up a 2000 ZX-12R back in September. It had been dropped and has a noisy 4th gear. Bike was basically abused. I went out riding with my buddy on his 2005 Yamaha R1 with pipe, PCIII, filter and gearing and we both found out that day what the 12 is really made of.
This old, tired, abused ZX-12R was running the R1 down on EVERY straight. But get this: not only was I tearing him up on the straights, I was running right with him through the twisties too. At one point I passed him mid-corner and never looked back. Once a ZX-12R is in the higher rev range (9,000+ rpm) you can forget about catching it. It's a wrap.
Over the winter I'm going to have it bored to 1287, get some head work done and drop in some cams from Orient Express. Can't wait until it's all finished.

I am not good enough of a rider to win in the twisties but I have found that in a straight line the 12R is pretty much the king

Stock ZX-12R was very close to 160 rwhp. Stock ZX-14 is what, 163? And the two bikes are only separated by a single pound in weight. All comes down to the rider. Now once the flies are removed from the 14, a pipe goes on, a filter goes in with a tuned PCIII then we're talking a different ball game.

Sure, but mod for mod a well tuned 12 A1will still be right there.

Help - simple fix (I hope)
My 12 has the worst throttle setting. There's way too much play. I found the cable adjusters beneath the air duct cover and I've made small adjustments to them without success. There's a "dead zone" in the throttle where you can move it backward and forward but there's not tension at all, the cables aren't being moved whatsoever.
It's annoying because when I give it decent throttle I'm always stretching my wrist down further than I should to compensate for the dead space at the beginning of the twist. I feel the throttle move but nothing happens. As soon as I move my hand on the Gixxer she's off and running but that little back and forth play on the ZX-12R is killing me.
Other than the adjusters mentioned earlier are there any fixes for this problem? Also, are there any throttle swaps that can be made to shorten twist distance? Thanks.
