More Bad News
I'm not sure what compells me to post this, other then the fact that I feel many of you members are like family to me. You have helped me in my times of need, taken me to hospitals, care for my belongings when I couldn't, and even taught me how to ride smarter, faster, and with a better understanding of how to operate my 12. I am suck in believing that things happen for a reason once again as with my mothers passing 14 years ago just don't understand...
My father due to be 63 soon was driving home from his office, when as I understand either lost a tire (in a car) or lost control period. Went straight into a bridge enbackment. The killer of the how thing is he wasn't in his Volvo C-70 but a rental, I guess he had clients in and he never wanted to look to flashy.
Yesterday morning they prounce he's brain dead and life support is the only thing keeping the vesle of life alive (?). His living will say's "DO NOT RESASTATE" You get the picture. The problem here is I am the Judge, Jury, and exeacutioner.
I did something today I only trained for in the Army, but a M-16 at 200 yards seemed so much easier.
I am sorry this is not a typical Bart post but in many ways I think of you all as family, and family supports each other.
Thanks for listen,
Bart
P.S. I am going to the DGIV MY FATHER WOULD WANT THAT.

All I can say is that we are all here for you, my brother.
I don't know if this will give you any comfort, but here's a link for you. I hope it is appropriate and proper at a time like this.

hey man,
i'm not sure why, but i have sometimes thought of how i would handle the same situation. I would handle it exactly the way you did. it's the only choice. It's not about the body, it's the lifetime of memories that lives on. a person can only die if you allow them to. as long as you keep them in your heart and thoughts they continue to enrich your life. i lost my brother 20 years ago and i still feel great when i think of him and the memories, the smiles and laughs. he is alive indeed.

Bart...I'm sorry to hear of your loss. My condolences to you and your family.
I lost my dad 5 months ago. But I've become closer to the rest of the family since then. Look to your family for support and be there to support them. They'll need it and so will you.

Losing Dad is tough; believe me I know. I have the same orders in my will; I don't want to be kept alive if I'm brain dead. YOu did what you had to do for your dad, & he's in a better place now.
My condolences & let us know if you need anything. Grief is a terrible thing, but you have to grieve; the sooner the better as its something that we all must go through from time to time. As Jason said, remember the good times...
All the best my friend...

Bart,
I am very sorry to hear about your Dad. I went through the advance directive experience with my Dad in December '98 and can relate to the feeling of being the judge, jury, and executioner as you put it. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about my Dad but it gets turned to different and better thoughts as time goes on. What you did wasn't a judgement by you so don't look at it that way, it was you carrying out a very difficult decision that he made himself long before this and you were able to grant that wish when he was unable to do so for himself.
Hang tough Bart, but don't hesitate to let the soft parts show too. You have the contact info, use it if you think it will help. My best goes out to you and your family.

We are here for you Bart. Whether we have met or not, you are a brother to us all.
Sorry to hear about your father. Take comfort in knowing that we are children of a compassionate God and that all acts have purpose and are based in love--your father's tragic accident has it's higher purpose and, despite his leaving this world, he will always be with those whose lives he touched.
As for the decision--remember this is a decision your father had already made, and by doing exactly what he wished you gave him another gift of your love.
Take care Bart. Let us know if we can help.

Bart.
I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. He sounds like he was a parent to you all the way till the end. Letting you know what his last wishes were, and not leaving you to make such a hard decision by yourself.
That is truely a sign of his love for you and his way of taking care of you, when you needed him the most - he was there.
