Last month I was at the track and I heard it directly from a "well known" Kawasaki factory rider who himself spoke with a top Kawasaki marketing executive that there is a 100% chance there will be a 1000cc "R" series streetbike marketde that is to be directly targeted at defeating the GSXR1000. It was rumored to make 160+ ponies (guessing upper 14X RWHP stock) and be at or less than the weight of the current GSXR1000. He also mentioned that "Kawasaki has made a serious effort to keep this project under wraps and it's been in development for more than 3 years", and they do not want any negative publicity similar to that associated with the debut of the 12R.

I wonder why they would pick such an odd ball size. Shit honda's 954 cant keep up with the Gixxer 1k, how does Kawi think a 963 will kick its ass? Hope they make it a 999. And that isnt its weight either, LOL

With a 10 being able to push nearly as much hp as a 12, and I'm assuming it will be lighter as well, what's going to set the 12 so much apart from the 10?

Suzuki did a 13 to get farther away from their 10. Are these new Kawi 10's going to hold up well against all our 12's.

...the diff could possibly be in long-range 'comfort': 12R=hyper-sport-tourer...10R=pure sports rocket...same top speeds...choose which one would be more practical to ride to Laguna or up a nearby mountain road...its just my guess...

The 10R may match the horsepower of the 12R, but it likely won't match the torque.

With the 186 mph limit, it'll be interesting to see what speed they'll gear it for. -ZXtra

Well I guess not many have seen a ZX9 in tuned form. Those bikes fly and make the same hp as a Gixxer 1000. Although the 9 is a tad heavier.
Ive always wanted to build a big bore ZX9 with about 30lbs shed from it.
Muzzys offers the big bore kit for them!

Muzzy claims 160 hp from it's 9R big bore kit. Even at 400 lbs that would be a tremendous improvement. It will be very interesting with a ZX10 to contend with!!

The reason for the oddball size deals with the speculation on the displacemnet the WSB, British Supebike rules etc. have talked about. The size escapes me at the moment, but that is why the GSXR is less than 980cc's in displacement. The R1 is oversized for the anticipated legal displacement. They talk about 1000cc but is really it less than a thousand.

From what I heard last year the factories are not going to chase the rules any longer. They are very tired of the politics of WSB and AMA SB and are going to race what they make and if the rules dont alow the bikes they make then they simply wont race. Kawasaki and honda are rumored to be pulling out of WSB, and suzuki in WSB, well...
WSB wont bring in much sponsor supprt if the factories arnt there with top teams. Just look at AMA 750 SS. Its been a foot note on race day for many years.
All the factories are focusing on one class at this time. Thats moto gp.

Formula extreme will be the most contested class in the USA in the coming years.
AMA Superbike is in big trouble. Just look at all the politics in the AMA right now. They are scrambling just to stay one step behind.

I still think the ideal Bore/Stroke puts the liter class at about 1030 cc.

ZXR-1000 (1030cc)
short forked
single seat
radial brakes
composite subframe (plastic alum.)
plastic fueltank
CV fuelinjection
lightest wheels in the industry

Lets see what happens.

I can already see Kawasaki digging out the ZX12 commercial. That scene with the guy standing there with his helmet waiting for the ZX12. In this case it will say "and they are still waiting for the ZX10!"
