woman learning to ride

I bought my woman motorcycle lessons. She starts this Saturday.
It's the first course where they go over everything on the bike and explain what everything is and how it works, then show you how to release the clutch and move.
It's a learn to ride course rather than the MSF course.
I will let you know how it went Saturday afternoon.

Why not teach her the basics yourself on a dirtbike then proceed from there????? Just wondering lessons couldn't be too cheap....

Also, as far as teaching yourself, to me it's just like teaching someone to fire a gun. You're much better off letting someone professionally trained to teach someone how to do it, than you doing it yourself.

IMHO.

Have ya ever tried to teach a woman something? Judging from my wife (who would be arguing about how to do things even though she's never driven a motorcycle in her life) it's well worth the money to pay someone else to do it. Plus she might get a little break on insurance.

I taught the woman how to drive my standard Stealth.
NEVER AGAIN will I teach her something that complicated.

The first lesson is $69 .
They provide the 125 cc bikes and helmets
You provide boots, jacket and gloves.
3 hour session
Level 1:
Motorcycle controls, where they are and how to properly use them..
motorcycle shigfting and finding neutral
mastery of throttle roll-on and clutch release for getting underway smoothly.

There are 4 levels. If she likes and wants to go through them, then I will send her to the MSF course too. She gets to buy her own bike.

teaching them in the dirt is a wonderful way to do it but make sure its a nice smooth area of dirt!
my wife bought a DR125 4 stroker to learn on.
we did a little bit of parking lot maneuvering and everything was fine and dandy.
once we advanced to the nice grassy trails where the kids rode their bmx bikes is when we ran into trouble.
we came upon a nice set of rolling whoops, 8 inches high each, and spaced 3 feet apart.
before going over them, i made sure she remembered to use the clutch to go slow!
and i told her to just stop on the first one to get her bearings.
well she hit the first one and for some reason ended up going WIDE OPEN over all the bumps looking like a bucking bronco.
when she got past them she was riding sidesaddle and started heading for a tree.
luckily she lost balance and slid to a stop. no damage except her ego.
she doesn't like being reminded about that "learning experience" for some reason.

Don't worry ddpete3....
The last laugh will be on you.
You might be able to pay someone else how to teach your girlfriend how to ride, but.... You will get your hours of teaching in, everytime you ride with her!

I gave Fish_Antlers everyone of his grey hairs, while I was riding!

A chatter box may help you with the process.

Is there some place or something to this list that shows where everyone lives? It would make things easier when I see postings for people wanting to go riding or people selling stuff I might want Thanks!

Pete..

Smart move. The cost seems pretty reasonable and you won't have to stree out. I am not trying to be a sexist, but teaching your girl friend or wife how to ride can be hard on the relationship!
