A/F Bung Questions!! HELP!!
Ok,
I need help fellas (and ladies). I have absolutely NO welding skills what so ever. HEll, I have never welded anything in my life (except if you count "Welding" my hands together with super glue) and I want to somehow install an A/F "bung" thingie for an A/F meter. Can I take my bike to some welder or somethign to get this installed? What do I tell them to do? Can I give them pictures? Who did you all get to install your "bungs"?? Can anyone recommend a place in northern NJ? What did it cost?!?! AARGGGHHH HEEELP!!

Mine cost a whopping $10 to have someone weld my bunghole.
You gotta tell them where to put the bunghole too. I like mine right where all the exhaust comes together as one.
You also want to be (I think) about 12-18 inches from the head. This way you get the appropriate amount of exhaust heat on the sensor.
Mine, on the 12, is verticle right next to the rear shock.
I bought the K&N unit from Summit Racing for about $89 or so. Summit sells about 3 different brands.
PLEEEASE just make sure that you get it TIG welded. Mine was welded by some monkey at Midas and he just globbed shit all over the bung and it doesn't look good at all.
A TIG weld is small, nice and pretty. (so I've been told....)

It will be even better if they TIG weld it with argon gas instead of oxygen. I won't even go into what my ended up looking like. I got what I paid for, I guess (it was free).

I have had 3 of them done.
I go to a muffler shop and buy the bung for $5.00
I then go to a welder and he does the rest for $10.00
You will need to tell him where to install it, you may also want to bring him your O2 sensor to get the proper depth. He may want to countersink it a little.

I had friend at a local machine shop do mine. I have a Yosh stainless system and all the bungs I was able to find were not stainless (regular steel). He made the bung for me out of a piece of stainless stock rod and tapped out the threads to 18mm. It was then tig welded with stainless wire, except for a small amount of blueing a quarter of an inch from the bung, it looks like it was made that way from the factory. I have got a couple pictures that I can email of another members yosh pipe with the bung installed. His was also tig welded with a stainless bung(don't have any of mine). With the AF installed I was able to fix a surge that I still had after having a custom map made, the bike was lean at 2% and 5% at 4000 rpms.
