Regular Gas? High test? Ethenol?
I've read in here that several of you run regular gas in your 12R. The first time I did it, the engine ping/knocked pulling away from a traffic light. I immediately topped off my tank with premium and drove easy till I used up that tank.
I was having a conversation with my local gas station owner, who is a mechanic.
He felt that ethenol was harmful to engines, reduced gas mileage, and hurt performance. It made me wonder if the regular gas that I tried in my 12R had ethenol in it.
comments? thought? Regular? Premium? Premium is $4.20 here now

Another reason to have your 12R mapped.
I have mine mapped with 91 pump in the tank. Weather it's oxygenated or not, I will get the correct A/F out the pipe.

I have put 87 in my bike when it was empty for drag racing no knocking or pinging.
But for street riding I always used 90.

When you cut back on the octane you are removeing safety factor. What works at night might scuff a piston on a hot afternoon. On a stock bike it's probably OK, but on anything with advanced timing or more compression or sustained high speed in high outside air temps I wouldn't do it. Just not worth the chance.

thanks all, the only mods to my bike are an arata pipe and a pc3 with a map for the arata.
It runs fairly rich. The temp outside, when it pinged was in the high 80's - low 90's.
