Question for Doug Meyer
Doug,
Would you mind making a list I can work from? Taking a stock '03 ZX12R what would you yourself do to extract the most from it for the street, stopping short of major engine disassembly. Please put them in the order they should be done.
Thanks in advance.

My name is not DM. However, I would like to offer my $.02....
Pic a pipe that makes the most power under peak and combine it with a PCIII USB. Have a CUSTOM map done after all mods!
Run crankcsae breather to exhaust reed valves and plug airbox/frame hole. Be sure to have this plugged when mapping to keep false lean condition getting to the "sniffer".
Fine tune your engine. Syncronize the TB's after turning out your air scews at least 2 turns. You want all 4 "air pumps" working together.
Have the cams degreed, and at least have them at spec or optimum for a stock engine.
Install BMC race air filters and grease the edges good before installing.
Make a plug for the snorkel and blow compressed air into the Ram Air. Find and seal all leaks. Free POWER.
Run a 75% de-ionized water mix in your engine with "water wetter" and non-silicate based coolant (dex-cool). This combined with a Muzzy fan can help keep the engine running @ 20 deg. cooler in most conditions. The ECU will like to see this.
I tooth down in front will still get you over 190 mph with a new, stock rear tire.
Choose a good electronic speed limiter eliminator.
Lighten the bike as much as possible, especially the wheels.
Now go kick some Eye Abusa Ass!

Well done Psycho.
Pretty much much my feelings as well. If removing the head is acceptable, I'd mill it .020 (.5mm) and get a precision "valve job" done.
The leaky airbox is a biggy.

Thanks for the response. I don't mean to offend anyone else on the board by posing the question to Doug. It's just a matter of reading about his accomplishments and wanting to get pointed in the right direction right from the start.
One thing though, isn't that Eye Abuser?

No worries, half. There are lots of good ideas here. Some of teh best come from guys like Psycho and Entropy, who have been flogging the same bike for years now!

you can also bump the compression using a thin head gasket. Cometic sells a .018 head gasket. Stock is .030. I think you can get
.6 of a point with that..
Also a big intake cam also works REALLY well .383 lift with .253 degrees of duration
extend the rev limit..

No arguement here either with everything you said!
Some people were careful and loosen the head bolts and raised everything to keep from breaking the seal of the head gasket and removed the Base Gasket. I would suggest using a little Yamabond or something like that to keep the crank seal!
Doing everything except the airbox seal but using Bear Short Stacks I made 183.1 and 101 torque SAE with my STOCK ZX12R (No base gasket removal either)

What are your thoughts on timing? I have a Muzzy's ignition advancer.

I prefer a PC3R instead of the advancer. The advancer was developed before the 3R was available. The advancer moves the whole curve (and the injector timing) and does not create a new curve.
If you stick with the advancer, 4deg seems to be a good maximum number to use.

Re; Timing....My 1270 with 14:1 CR liked only 2.5 advance with the mechanical. No more, no less.
Stocker will like it like DM said.
