Hit by a car today
It's the 3rd time I've been hit by a car. Trick is to get yourself away from the bike as soon as possible and not care what happens to it.
In traffic because of a semi crashing into another semi on the 5 just North of the Border search.. I was legally sharing a lane with a car and going 10 mph faster than it, as is allowed by law, when the person in the right lane decided she wanted to be in the left lane and did a turn signal and turn at the same time thing. I jammed on my brakes and skidded into her left rear corner panel with my front right area. Turn signal came out. The bike went down on the left side, I jumped off at a run. She pulled over to the side, came over and helped me pick the bike up. She actually put the turn signal back in for me.
Damage was generator cover, scrape on the wing, mirror scrape, handlebar scrape, zx-12r sticker scrape. I got her number and she is going to pay for it. She's in the navy and was down here sending her husband off on a ship this weekend. She was shaking and more afraid than I was.
It's cool. She's gonna pay for the damage. I'm surprised nothing else happened.
Then, I continued on my way to LA to get my picture taken with my bike for a possible back scene shoot for the upcoming "Fast and the Furious" bike rendition.
Bike runs fine, but the generator cover is bent, so I want to replace before I ride again
Can the dented generator cover have any bearing, mechanically?

Three times?!?! Dang bro, you need to leave about 50 yards between you and any other traffic.
I just hope you can find that lady when it comes time to pay up. I let a lady who used to work next door to me talk me into not calling the cops when she ran into my truck. When I bought the bumper and other stuff, she proceeded to tell me it was my fault I parked my truck there and she wasn't going to pay, blah blah, blah... Sorry b^%&#@
Glad to know you weren't hurt, though!!

Glad to hear it didn't turn out too bad. And thanks for throwing in some "lessons learned". If nothing else results from my mishaps, I always want to share what I have learned from them. Maybe it will save some other unfortunate rider a little grief.

ddpete, Glad you are okay, That being said, what is legal and what is safe can be two very different things. Your hyde is worth more then getting someplace 10 seconds sooner. Remember people WILL do the stupidest thing possible, they will veer over two lanes and take you out. NEVER ride a bike without an escape route out of any bad situation. Leave plenty of room in front, if someone if following too close, slow down make them slow and then accelerate away, they will get the hint. Dude, sharing a lane is just plain asking for it. Continue and you eventually will not be here to tell the story. Sorry if I am being harsh, but having ridden for over 35 years and working as a motorcycle meahanic, in my younger years I have seen what happens and frankly I would hate to see it happen to you.

...and this is why you should get an aftermarket exhaust system or a slip-on with more...uh...personality...er...character...nuthin' keeps their attention like a MUZZY horn bouncin' off at 9000RPMs in tight confines with potential blindspots...hey...I got it!...as a minimum, let's do the stock exhaust mod to your pipe this weekend...

You take off the can and leave it at your house.
I did a 30 mile run with mine off, ran smooth, and man did it sound nice! My Wife could hear it a mile away!
Muzzy horn going to cost you about $500 bones.
Two Brothers about $250.

Doug,
I did the exhaust mod on my '02 to get a few more ponies and a nastier sound. Check it and other mods out HERE.
BTW, the Muzzy for $500 is a full system, the $250 Two Brothers is only going to be a slipon. Big difference in performance for the money, IMHO.

Dang man!
Three friggin times! A good lawyer would have made you a millionaire by now! .
Glad to read that you walked away unhurt. I'd have the bike checked out as other less visible damage may have occurred.

Glad to hear you are OK!
Ride carefully and get the bike fixed. You might want to consider if the world is trying to give you a message about your safety? Three times and no real injuries is a message of some kind...
Good luck--for sure say some prayers of thanks!
Take care,
Mike

It sounds to me like you are putting yourself in the position to be hit. There is such a thing as being dead right. I would suggest you take a close look at the situations you are proposing to put yourself in prior to actually doing so.
