she wont start on button

Hi all,

Just picked my bike up to move it to my new house and it wont start off the button, she fires up right away with a push though..

Battery is about 3 months old, with ignition on and engine off put headlights on and then everything else and the lights didnt dim at all so battery good..
clutch in or out makes no difference, ridden bike for 20 miles, still same,

when my immobiliser is on you get nothing at all so dont think thats it,

checked battery terminals and all is well,

can hear the relay by the fuses, the fuel pump cuts in with the starter button pressed, but no starter solenoid noise/chatter/bugger all....

cant find my manual to see which is the wire that energises the starter solenoid, (boxed never to be seen again)..

anyone know where i should be pointing my multimeter??

shes an 03 (B1) stood for approx 4 weeks.

got a bike show to attend in 2 weeks time and no spare cash at the mo...

Grateful for any advice..

Bad button. Mine's intermittant. They get corroded. Not sure if you can take it apart and clean it like the ZX-11's.

Is the button dual circuit? the fuel pump cuts in when the button is pressed, i took that to mean the button was fine, must be the fuel pump relay i can hear by the upper tank mount too?

Will have a look in there tomorrow, i got no lights in my garage yet,

Cheers

got it fixed after much head scratching..

it was the connectors within the multiblock going to the starter lockout switch..
it wasnt until i had checked everything else and pulled the plug to get some readings that i looked in the end of the plug and saw the problem.. earlier on i had just checked the plug wasnt loose.

gained some useful knowledge on the way though and will be adding two small lengths of stiff wire to my onboard toolkit.

on the plugs going to the fuse box there is a red / grey stripe wire, providing this wire with a ground will bypass the starter lockout switch and neutral switch, next to that wire on the block is a yellow / red stripe wire.. this one energises the starter relay so providing a temporary '+' will engage the starter. Not a permanent fix by any means but a good to know get you home cure.

Just remember that with the red/grey wire earthed it will be possible to start the bike regardless of clutch lever position or whether its in gear or not..

Well, it coulda' been a bad button. Was the pin in the plug pushed back?

yea 2 pins had pushed back, one may have still made contact but the other was obviously not going to reach, it was the last plug i looked at and the easiest to access...bloody typical,

put everything back together last night and was quite happy she was good to go again...

...then i saw the plastic solenoid cover on the side in the kitchen this morning......

guess what ill be doing when i get back from work tonight lol !!!

never mind..im glad in a way that i have had a problem as it has been faultless so far and i havent had to look into anything to see how any of it works,

at least now i know how to get round the non start problems if i need to in a rush, which im sure i will be very glad of at some point given the weather in the UK and the fact i mostly ride alone..

better just add that the manual i used was for an 'A' model, and my bikes a 'B1' so wire colours are the same for both.

Cheers for the help so far... be needing more soon, got a payout for an accident due soon and the bike gets first slice....

Doug if it makes you feel any better, the starter button my ZX11 was intermittent at times. I would have to wiggle the button at times to get it to make contact.
