Terrible News - Our buddy needs your prayers

Our friend went down in Chicago this weekend and his wife may not make it!!!! Need some prayers!!!

Our riding group (Rocket Riders) make a weekend ride to Chicago every year. Saturday morning all the guys met at our house for the ride. About 18 bikes. KZZ1 decided not to go because he wanted to stay home with me.

They got to Chicago and planned on riding in town so all of them shed the gear and their buckets at the hotel and went crusin' downtown. They met up with a friend driving a SUV and the plan was to take some city roads (No highways) to an area were sportbikes hang out. Well, the guy's all said that they wanted to go back to the hotel to get their helmets if they were gonna be riding on any highways. The driver of the SUV said that he would take them thru town.

Well, that did not happen.....No blame to the SUV driver. The guy's should have kept their buckets!!!!

They headed out and before they knew it they were on the on-ramp of the highway... The highway was pretty busy.... They were trying to follow the SUV, traveling at about 55mph...Then a car shoots off an on-ramp, cut's over two lanes and then cut off the SUV. The SUV had to slam on their brakes and they started to skid...Our buddy riding a Busa was right behind the SUV...He started breaking hard and the back tire started sliding. This sliding bucked off his wife who was on the back of the bike. She went flying off the bike and down the highway...When she flew off, it put him out of balance and the bike went into a slide.

She flew directly into traffic and worse then that...directly into the lane with all of the sportbikes (our group)....The guy's were all trying to miss her as she, our buddy and the bike were all sliding at them. The guys shot out every way that they could but it left our good friend with no where to go. He tried to miss everything coming at him but could not miss our buddy's wife who was right in front of him....... The guy's said that she was rolling down the highway like a ragdoll...................He hit her shoulder but was able to keep it up and not crash. This caused a chain reaction behind them and they could hear cars slamming brakes and crashing into each other behind them....

The guys (All the Sportbikes) pulled over and started helping our buddy and his wife on the Busa. Two of our friends are Fireman so they ran over to help our buddy's wife. She is in really bad shape....At that point, she was not breathing so Walter got her tongue out of the way so that she could breathe!!! Thank God for Walter being there and his quick action!!!

There was a stream of blood coming from her head and had some chunks missing... They were taken to the hospital...

We got the call about midnight and immediately jumped in the car and headed down to see them. At the hospital we found our buddy to be pretty lucky...He only had a broken collar bone, stitches in his head and some road rash. His wife is in Critical condition.................

She has massive head trauma and is still "sleeping". She has a broken leg, arm. Pelvic bone, collar bone........A neck injury and massive road rash..... They said that one of four things can come from this -
#1 - she could wake up and be ok...just broken bones (best case) and a long road to recovery.
#2 - she could be partially paralyzed from the neck injury.
#3 - Partial or massive permanent brain damage
#4 - Severe Brain damage or Not wake up at all.

The good thing is that she is breathing on her own. But other than that, she is lifeless..... Our riding group is all screwed up..... The guy that hit her is not taking it very well. He feels horrible...He wishes that he could have wrecked himself other than hit her. Our buddy on the Busa was released last night and he is for the most part OK...but he is emotional screwed up about his wife!!!!!

They could all use your prayers...... ....

Our buddy and his wife only own property (self employed)...They did not have health insurance...The only insurance that they had was the Bike insurance... They are screwed!!!!!

Please Read this -

#1 - DO NOT RIDE WITH-OUT YOUR HELMET
#2 - IF YOU HAVE SOME ONE ONE THE BACK - MAKE THEM HOLD ON TO YOU
We think that she was only holding onto the bar on the back.
#3 - Check your policy and see if you are covered so you will not have to worry about this in a terrible time.
#4 - NEVER RIDE WITH_OUT YOUR HELMET....NEVER.....NEVER

Please be safe guy's and WEAR YOUR GEAR!!!!!!!!

That's horrible for everyone involved. I'm sure her husband will have lasting effects for quite a while as will the man who hit her.

I don't want to start a thread, but it makes me wonder (again) why bad things happen to good people.

God bless.

Hopefully it will all turn out okay. We all know about safety equipment, occurances like these just validate what we already know. This is a horrable way to have to learn that lesson.

Friends,

I am a minister serving just north of Chicago at Evanston Bible Fellowship (Evangelical Free). I would love to go to the hospital and visit this couple and offer them some hope and some much needed prayer support. Please call me or email if you have any information on which hospital they are in. I am trained in theology and counseling in crisis---my heart goes out to them.
