Poll Question: Riding Fast or Flying Low
On a pilot bulletin board that I frequent, someone did a poll asking how many of the pilots there also owned and rode a motorcycle. I'm kinda curious on this end. Anybody here a pilot too?

N, but I wanna ...but I had a half-hour back seat ride in a privately owned and hott-rodded 2-seat demilitarized fighter jet trainer a couple of years ago...20K ft ceiling, 450mph on a <500ft deck, loops, 8-points, break-aways, etc., neg/pos Gs, pulled 6 pos Gs...almost got sick hee hee...I'd do it again in a heartbeat

That trainer kinda puts 175HP on the ZX12 into some perspective, doesn't it?

Acceleration on the stock 12R is more brutal (never mind the mods I have on it now...or the riders with BB engines out there)...fun factor is 'close'...risk factor is 'about the same' (hey, whaddoIknow?)...concentration factor 'appeared to be the same'...I was looking for the airpolice when we 'strafed' the deck and...uh...what appeared to be large dogs or...uh...cows...nah, couldn't have been....was probably old large mailboxes painted to look like cows...DOH!

Despite my handle, the only thing I pilot is the 12. Used to build and fly gyrocopters though.

I grew up in a 63' Cessna 210. Dad let me fly it a lot; It was one fast MF'er w/average cruise @ 75% throttle = 175mph. We flew all over the W. US all the time. I grew up loving flying. I started taking lessons w/I was almost 16 in a Cessna 150; had to wait for my 16th birthday to solo at 8 hrs. in the logbook. I over the next couple months got up to 20 hrs. We used to go to shows, the air races in Reno, etc. Our lives were centered around flying.
However, @ 16 I was more interested in piloting females, & had been bored with flying for a few years, so that's as far as I ever went. Dad eventually passed & the airplane was sold (didn't have the bux $18.5K, damnit!) Mom kept flying w/Dad's buddies for several years after. One of them, a known bad pilot, trying to save a few pennies on fuel, ran it out of gas 3 miles short of the runway & killed my mom in 00'. (NTSB report is on their website- April 24th, 00' Hayward, CA.) He survived unhurt the bastard; least he will never fly again. I wanted to kill him for quite awhile...
I lost all interest in aircraft after that, but you know what? Every time one flys over I find myself looking up, & immediately know what that aircraft is down to the year & model. Least Mom's money gave me the extra bux to buy the Ninja! I guess I still like airplanes, & still yearn to fly, gonna be a few years tho before I'm ready....

Man, that's terrible stuff about your mom, EBD...very sorry to hear about that
I'd be really cool to get my license one day...or go start jumpin' out of one before I'm too old

Thanks man, appreciate the thoughts. Strangely enough, I don't dislike airplanes- guess ~30 years of flying around the states/Canada/Mexico w/my Dad, & my own lessons/flying engrained it in me.
I still like flying & airplanes; someday maybe I'll get back into it as the loss of Mom fades- we were very close. I still wanna beat up that sucker tho...thankfully after his 3rd crash the FAA pulled his license permanently. I still have my logbook too; in case I ever need proof of my solo & hours...

Now what do you want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane for? I've always wanted to try that...chicken tho...

It's kinda funny that everyone has a level of what they call crazy. A lot of people here have no problem going 170+ mph on two wheels, but simply jumping out of an airplane scares the crap out of you.
I saw a bull riding competition on TV last year where during a break, sky divers jumped out of a plane and landed in the middle of the arena. The reporters interviewed the bull riders and asked them about sky diving and interviewed the sky divers and asked about bull riding. Both groups thought that the people in other group were crazy bastards.
Kinda makes you wonder, huh?

I jumped out of an airplane once
My daughters gave it to me for a birthday present.I loved it but I hurt my back from landing incorrectly.
I finished my pilots license when I was in england (SEL).I'm not current but I work on acft. everyday.
