In 2000 I bought a 12R and Busa ( both new 2000 models ) Mod for like mod, the 12R ALWAYS made more horsepower and would outrun the Busa in a FAIR roll-on contest. I sold my Busa not for it doing anything wrong..............but for seeing one on every corner and the way it looked. After I sold it ( the Busa ) I got a GREAT deal on another 2000 12R in the crate and bought it. I still have them both................

same here... I have one busa kill on video... and have had 2 other kills. I guess I am just a real good rider right... ?? the older busa is very fast in magazines. Especially in 1994 on one day... on a radar gun... which is not used in real world records... which has never been duplicated by any reputable organization that can be proven....
My last busa kill involved a busa that I passed riding the opposite direction and he reved his motor... "made my day that one actually stepped up to the plate" I dream about this opportunity if that tells you something about the 12. So I turned around and followed him. He pulled over, I told him he had a nice bike and asked If I could run with him and his friend. I did this because I had complete confidence that I was about to give him some lessons/education. He said that it was a 1397 and it had a muzzy pipe.. .. anyway we did 3 roll ons and he was never able to pass me. I looked in the mirror the last run up to 185 indicated and it was 10 bike lengths and we started with 2. We did this 3 times. His attitude was completely different after this. Now I cant imagine being able to beat a bored busa so I have to say it was probably the rider on that one...or maybe it wasnt bored out at all. Who knows. All he could say was "wow.. that thing is fast"..However, the other two bikes had equal mods and still was not able to take me out. One of the kills is on my myspace page on video. He was looking at my bike at bike night and laughing at my winglets...asking if they are forward controls. haha. I figured it would be alot closer on every race against the bird and still have not experienced a competitor. I know they are fast .. they have to be right...I just dont understand why the 12 is ignored when I/we school every busa... hmm The same seems to happen on video many times over and over. Same with the other 12 members on this board. Reality is that both bike are extremely fast and it probably does come down to the rider. I must just be a real good rider.. like all of the other 12 riders. Maybe the 12 makes you an expert rider and you can beat the odds every single time.
I would be glad to make some more video if any busa dudes would like to know the truth.

I would respect the busa alot more if one would beat me. I have confidence that it is possible after looking at the magazines The busa should be pulling away from me/us like we are on zx9's by they way they are praised. Not even close right....

Riding partner had a 00' Busa; we rode together all the time.
He was faster (crazier) then me in the twisties...he had a slight edge.
If I got the jump on the freeway I could hold him off until 175+ where he would slowly creep by (I'm 320lbs.) If he got the jump he'd get a couple lengths and I'd never it it back.
So, at high speeds it was basically a tie = dependant on who got the jump.
My bike looked much much better.
FWIW, IMHO

Mechanic in a local Suzi shop built a 1397 and put it in a GSXR 1000. My stock 12 went up against it in a dyno-shootout. The 1397 made 167, and my 12 168, go figure...

and the debate continues.... lol
Listen, I've been on this subject for years and have done a LOT of street racing as well as on the track in sanctioned LSR events. The answer to this question is quite simple....
Depends on who's riding what. That's how stupid close these bikes are in performance.
Sure, once you start modifying them, it's a matter of who's got the better set-up and tune.... but stock vs stock will always go in favor of the better (and usually smaller) rider. That's the God's honest truth. Anyone who says different is just being brand loyal.

Don't worry about the "Mighter than thou" Busa guys out there. They are usually the ones with faster tounges than bikes.
I don't know if you partake in street racing or not, but the quickest way to shut one of these guys up is to call them out right then and there. More often than not, this is when the excuses and/or ridiculous "buy the pot" wagering tactics begin to fly.
Funny thing is, this occurs not only with Busa guys, but ZX-14 guys too.

Good rider vs bad rider.........., yadda yadda. This will never stop. All I know, is Brock told me that they have never gained as much with a pipe and pc on a busa as a 12. either way, they are both good bikes. At times, I wish I had bought a busa, just for the aftermarket.......
zx12 is like a dodge. busa is a small block chevy. either can be made to run fast, just more out there for the latter..........

I miss the battles/conversations about the 12 and busa.. it made it a little fun. The same is non-existent with the new busa and 14. It seems like everybody now is educated and know that they are both fast, comes down to rider...or they just dont care. There is hardly no smack talk on this subject. It was interesting that many people on the old Busa thought it was impossible for it to beaten. Especially by a 12. I always called it Busa Syndrome. Now it just like we all ride fast bikes. Phantom is right its all about the rider.
Phantom... how would you say the 12 compares to the new 14/busa? I have not raced them but it seems like it would still be a riders race on the street due to the similar horsepower (piped 12 of course) and 12 having a slight weight advantage.

ive just bought a zx12. Havent tried it yet. Winter.. But ive had a Honda cbr900rr for a couple of years, and ive ridden against a few Busas. Beaten every time of course. Not so bad in the start of the race, but after 60 they really get ahead. Cant wait to get my revenge!
Extremely boring with bikes that outruns you and then wait fo you and then does it again and again!

Although the ZX-14 and Busa II give you a more solid and refined package, as well as more displacement, the ZX-12R has a LOT of untapped potential.
With all bikes being stock, the ZX-12R is on the bottom of the pile in terms of overall performance, but there's not as large of a performance gap as one would think when you look at the spec sheets. The ZX-12R may not have the displacement and torque of the Busa II and ZX-14, but it does have significantly more RPM and a lot of room for improvement.
As of right now, My personal ZX-1287R is faster at Maxton than Brock' Davidson's 1340cc Busa II and his 1352cc ZX-14... N/A vs N/A on the same day. So, the ZX-12R can definately roll with the big boys with significantly less displacement but a lot more modifications and $$$ are required to do it.
It does seem that the ZX-12R has some serious speed potential for its size. It's only weakness is it's displacement limitations. 1427cc's is just about as big as you can go with a ZX-12R, where as the Busa II and ZX-14 can achieve this with a simple 2mm overbore piston kit and still keep all the reliability of the stock crank.

been there. done that. to two 14's and a busa. the one guy on the 14 said "he's beaten enough people with it and doesn't need to race anymore." but then again, this guy was also trying to say that 14's come with 14.5 CR and mak 200hp in SLC stock. another guy on a piped/pc'ed, quickshifter, wideband, lowered, strapped, bells/whistles busa thought he was hot shit in a champagne glass until i told him the HP i was making. too bad i blabbed, i shoulda just kept running my mouth cuz he was gonna race me. the only busa that did step up was my friend wayne. he was piped/pc'ed and i was bone stock. i still won from a third and then a second gear pull. he even let me ride it afterwards. fun bike!
he's the only guy on a busa that i respect just cuz he was cool about it and wanted to have a friendly comparison. wasn't running his mouth, was just curious to see how our bikes ran against eachother.
moral of the story: a lot of guys are in fact dickheads when it comes to buying the biggest "fastest" bike out there, still, some of them earn some respect. but if they run their mouths, they better make sure they can back it up
[/rant]
PS, i'm sure somewhere there is a bike faster than mine. somewhere....
