New '08 ZX14/ 'busa?

Since both the new ZX14 and the new 'busa is improved and faster out of the box, I was wondering if anyone is going to give up their ZX12 for either of these bikes?

Nope, will retire the Old 00 12 (210.9 HP) to street use and pick up an old 99-00 Busa for a LSR/drag bike. Maybe Big N/A or turbo have not decided yet.

Ive riden the 06 busa SE,, (my brothers),, and i know therre is a difference compared to the new one,, but to be honest im not impressed,, i think with a good rider the 12 is a very worthy opponent,, im starting to like it more and more everyday,, just got it to where its more rider friendly and the ergos are dial in,, some wheels and paint and i will and i will be a VERY happy camper,, seems like a fall on the other 2 would be a $$$$$$$$ Headache..

I agree with Gary. I ride the 12 nearly everyday, that bike just fits. And it don't look too bad either ('02 pmb). Got a box full of gofasterstuff that was on it, (shifter, 2 nos sol. various toggle switches, yosh box, etc.). Left it semi-slammed and at 64" with a steering damper, its just a blast to ride. The 14, its fun to ride also, but at the track (any straight track). Even with a few of the same mods it just seems fast.

Won't sell out. The 12 is where its at for me. Looks way better, and is FASTER OUT THE BOX BONE STOCK AND THOSE BIKES MENTIONED (at least in 2000). Not "quick" enough to justify 2-3x the price of a new gen bike vs one a few years back.

Pipe, pc3, filter, and maybe a sprocket....the 12 is back in the swing.

A heavier, uglier bike that has less top speed than the 12 with 3x the price?

I'll pass.

Got them both, I don't see as much difference as most would have you believe.
The 14 feels a little smoother than my bigblock zx12 butt dyno and track mph favor the zx12.To be fair my 12 is not stock and I have years of seat time on it.
I like the look of the 14 and when the building starts I think the 14 will out muscle the 12.
So yes, I will give up my 12 for a 14.
Hint, there are some very good deals on used 06 and 07 zx14s.
If you sell the zx12 the $ difference is not that great used to used.

For Drag Racing the 14 beats the 12 easily...Sure the 14 is only 2/10ths faster than the 12 with an arm!!!

But it does it easier, smoother, more consistantly and has double the clutch life of a 12!!!

IF I get a new bike for next year it will be the new 250 Ninja for my wife! I enjoy riding her bike now and the new 250 may be better! For ergo's, power and feeling like I am riding a "Motorcycle", the ZRX 1100 making 145 SAE HP really does it for me!

Since I enjoy tilting at the Windmills, I will enjoy setting some new records with my 2000 ZX12R! WHen I have done all I feel like doing on the 12, I hope to restore it and put it back on the street! Maybe build a 1992 ZX11 1000 CC either Super Charge or Turbo by Sleeving the cylinders as opposed to de-stroking it! I think the "C" Model has good Areo's and should be easy to get a Turbo Kit from Mr. Turbo since he already went 230 with a "C" Model!

ALL of these bikes do something for me and "Look" good while doing it

Mr. Hill you are too funny! You just want that new 250 so you can spank those skinny guys on their Busas in the twisties!!!!

I must admit that new 250 does look nice. They should up grade the motor a little, half the
HP of a ZX-10 would sure be nice. If they did that then I wouldn't have to say I was buying it
for my wife.

Yes that 250 is very VERY nice!

But looks aside and back on topic with the 12 compared to the new busa/ZX14, it just seems that like any product the law of diminishing kicks in, and the product lifecycle starts trending downward.

I mean, how long with the 12R hang in there against two considerations: the benefits of new technology, the fact the 12s are aging?

Its awesome that some absolutely won't let go of the bike, I just wish I could understood the reasoning behind it.

----Like myself, many others are what one may call a "die-hard" or enjoy the challenge of being an underdog. Its all too easy to get the job done on the Busa with its aeros, aftermarket support and 100+cc advantage. You tend to get more respect running the same number on the 12 as a Busa or 14 IMO. Asthetically, you would be hard pressed to find anyone call the 12 ugly. The same can't be said about the other 2. Personally, I like "getting them back" in the top gears...assuming they get away in the first place. 12s are underrated...so its kinda like the "iron fist in a velvet glove". I would never get rid of my 12 and I doubt I would sell out and get a Busa or 14, but thats just me.

its a combination I never thought I would have in my garage...got to ride the 12 yesterday for the first time...forgot what a great bike they are...Crashtech put the heli bars on it, and a corbin seat, I just need to pick up a throttle meister and get to riding it....man that thing pulls like a freight train....but the 10 is smoother, got to ride them back to back yesterday. That was fun...

10 is quicker on top, the 12 is faster on bottom and pulls away from the lights stronger....

Buy yourself a set of REAL mags which has a lower Moment of Inertia and replace the 200 rear wheel with a 190 or even a 180 .
These changes will make a HUGE difference .
I think Ship still has a set for sale.

I have a set of Marchasini wheels on it and run a 190.....but thanks for the thought.....now its time for me to play with the fork heigth, and I have a set of Schnitz adjustable links on the back of it. the links were cut so that they will raise and lower the heigth, instead of just lowering it. I will figure it out. I just dont want to make it twitchy.

You will be suprised at the difference the front tire makes.
Much more that any rear i ever tried.
I think the 120/60/17 is the tire, very low profile and round.
Made the zx12 feel 4 inches shorter.

I've had my A1 12 from new and have used it on the strip every year since 2000. Now I'm 71 and retired I can't see me "upgrading?", just keep plodding away on my 12 while I can - do hope to get in the 8's this season though having done 9.08/156 last year. Its the 60 fts I struggle with in the 1.5's, just got to get in the 1.4's and I've got it. Then I can "retire" properly. Keith
