POWER COMMANDER QUESTION?

this guy shipped a side panel and it was brand new and got a chip (about an inch) taken off it,, it was UPSs fault,, but there wasnt insurance so he is willing to give me a PC3,, its not a 3R,, or 3USB,, just a PC3,, my question is,, is there a Performance difference between the different models,, if not,, what can i expect to gain,, are these things worth putting on the bike,, will i actually NOTICE anything,, he is willing to give it to me for $40.00 bucks.. and it has a Muzzy map already on it for my year bike,, and that is the pipe i am running (Carbon cannister) thanx Vic

they have been known for alot of defective units.i would tell the guy to send my money back with a pickup shipping tag..he fucked up now he has to eat it.

the regular pc3 doesnt adjust timing like the pc3r does. the usb is upgradable to do all kinds of cool stuff with maps and timing and has an lcd display you can add(buy extra) IIRC, and is supposed to be better(read live longer trouble free) than the first two

yea,, but am i gonna actually NOTICE any difference?,, if its not a noticable difference,, then i cant see paying the cash? what will i notice?

well you wont be able to play with timing. it will be stock. the 12 seems to like advanced timing(more power). you could manually advance the timing, but then if you add nitrous, you wouldnt be able to retard the timimg in the upper rpm range unless you A took out the advancer and ran stock timing everywhere(no gains in the lower rpm from timing) B set the stock timing as retarded everywhere (works better/safer with spray, but not nearly as good everywhere else)
if its not being raced, and you dont care about a few hp, just get the pc3, but know that its not quite as reliable as the newer usb version. that being said, i have a pc3r in my bike. i would like to upgrade to the usb version for even more control, but i dragrace and i plan on using nitrous down the road. the pc3r will work well for that, just ask Ali. the usb is just a bit more refined with more options

hello . I got k&n air filter ,full system yoshimura trs carbon. Last days I received PC3 for 2004. Which map do I have to use?? A lot of friends are telling me the P.C is useless ,fuel consumption will go up the engine will not run nice etc etc .

get a custom map made and it will run perfect. there are lots of base maps that will work ok too. some are availabe right on powercommander.com

PC3 tuned properly with a manual advancer will make as much hp as pc3r or usb.
pc3r have had more failures.
Usb does offer timing features but unless you are racing or a dyno freak you probably will not take full advantage of it.
For $40 i'd take either.

be careful of the USB ign timing module, some folks i trust have reported it is NOT advancing the timing correctly and v little gains are obtained.
I have no 1st hand knowledge.

I have a brand new USB & ign module sitting on my shelf, and use an old PC3r.

I do know from last weekend tuning sessions on a FactPro dyno that my motor responds strongly to ign adv and that the adv needs for "best hp" vary with rpm. I used #'s from 3's to 10's!!!...

More advance seems to lean out the AF requiring fattening up the fuel #'s.

i would say 3 or 4 would be safe on a stock motor that is running 91 octane or better, but im no expert. i ran 3 on my bike on 91 octane. i can email you the map i used if you want to have a look

On the street i don't think you could really hurt it even with 5, but i would NOT take it to LSR without tuning it on a dyno.

LSR is the top speed events like the texas mile or the maxton mile. you have a mile long course to try and go as fast as possible. think drag race, but all alone and 4 times the track length...but it isnt ET you are after, its MPH

One question, for example in this map Map is for 2000 ZX-12R, K&N filters, Full Yosh Race System (tri-oval or RS3). It includes Muzzy Race timing adjustments. C Randall on/off throttle adjustments and idle fix. ) the timing adjustment is already done by map modified , or with the rotor from muzzy.

that map is for a yosh box, (yosh ems) and i do believe it has the timing allready advanced, but i cant open it. i would need the yosh software, but i cant seem to find it. you are supposed to be able to copy and paste map values between the yosh box and a power commander, if i had the software to open the ems files i could convert it for you, and set the timing at whatever you wanted
let me try and figure out how to open ems files and i should be able to help....
