I usually start with one of those mityvac vacuum bleeders, they're only about 35 bucks at the local parts store, bleed it most of the way with it, then it just takes alot of time and patience hand pumping it, hold pressure, crack bleeder, close bleeder, release lever. You have to be really careful not to let the lever move back out at all while bleeders open.

i bought vacuum bleeders like oof said. hooked it up, pumped it a few times, open the bleed valve up a little. let it pull down the fluid. tighten the bleed valve. no pulling the lever (pumping) required.. just on the back remember theirs two valve bleeders.

A trick I learned here was to fill the system from the bottom up. Get a clean (brand new) oil can, connect some hose to it, and pump brake fluid through the caliper bleeders until the reservoir is no longer blowing bubbles. Do one side at a time. Then, tie-strap the brake lever overnite to get rid of any last remaining air. Works great.

Especially when working with a fresh (dry) or troublesome system, I try and do the whole system off the bike (It can be done). I put the Mast Cyl in a vise and let the calipers hang to the floor with a piece of something between the pads. I put bleed tubes and bottles on each caliper and open the bleeders. Pump the fluid (aided by gravity) re-filling (or recycling from the bottles) until you get only clear fluid out. Then do a conventional open-close bleed sequence until you get a firm lever. Works like a charm.

Of course I do it backward! I install everything with an empty Master Cylinder) I start the farthest point and FILL the system through the bleed hole with a Pump squirt can with a Plastic tube out the end. I fill the tube then push if over the bleeded and open the bleed screw. I partly fill the mc then do the other side! WHen Finished, I pump up the brakes and wrap the lever with Duct tape and let it sit for a few hours. This forces the Air out of the edges up to the MC! When I remove the tape HARD Brakes and no money spent (Except for the $3.00 Oil Squirt can!)

done hundreds and hundreds of systems using a full sized vaccum bleeder powered by shop air and rarely had problems
