from my understanding the peak output doesnt change on a dyno only the time it takes to get there.

quote: Drivetrain inertia has no bearing on the engine's output. However, dynos that use calibrated inertial devices to deduce power from angular acceleration can be affected by drivetrain inertia changes.
Engine output is the same, the amount of HP applied to the ground/dyno is affected by driveline weight.
extreme example , roll a 14" car tire down the street, then roll a tractor tire down the street.
same strenth/hp different result.

Not entirely true. More drivetrain inertia will affect vehicle acceleration but not top speed. Engine power output will affect both acceleration and top speed. If you use a steady-state dyno, then the amount of power that it reads will not be affected by drivetrain inertia.

I've never degreed the cams on my A1 model. When it was a 1270 it dyno'd 200 rwhp on a dynojet dyno. Then i fitted some higher lift, more duration Kent "drop in" cams at 108/108 and it still made 200 but with less midrange. Would have made more hp if the rev ceiling was lifted 500-1000 rpm. Now I'm running a stock motor with Carillos, Ape studs and Je 13:1 pistons. Made 174 rwhp n/a and 228 with 50 shot. this has got me to 9.08/156 which is better than I did with the 1270. Keith

When I say stock motor I mean stock head and valves, stock cams untimed, stock injectors. Keith

The head had some cleaning up done to the ports and the cylinder and head had been resurfaced meaning I put in two stock base gaskets to offset the machining. It was best with the stock cams timed as it came out of the factory, didn't have adjustable wheels. Full Akro pipe and BMC filters, plus 4 degrees on the ignition. Ran 205 mph on flyer gearing 18/42 timed. The bike had Bear short stacks. Eventually one of the stock rods let go and totalled the whole motor, thats why i got another engine and fitted some stronger rods and bolts plus forged pistons, i was pretty upset when I lost my original engine, thought about jacking it in but the bikes going well with a 50 shot, now I'm upping the fuel pressure to see if I can get a bit more gas in. After all, I'm only 71, plenty of time left. Keith
