Graphic Art Undertail, Any tips on install

My Graphic Art undertail should arrive today. I have read where several members currently have these undertails. Any suggestions or tips before the install begins. I hope to have it on tomorrow.

Tips ? How about these...

Print the directions off the site, and take them to the bike with you. If you don't have a color printer then mark the cut points in the photos you printed with a colored marker.

If you don't own a Dremel tool with a cutter borrow one. If you can't do that then get a fine tooth hack saw blade and a box cutter. There are some points that you'll need a blade anyway because the Dremel won't reach everywhere.

Hot melted platic hurts when it flys into your eyes, wear the safety glasses.

Take your time.

I didn't use the mounting for the computer as outlined in the directions. I made some brackets and bolted it into the bike with the trunk removed and use it like that. There's a lot more room like that. It's just my preference, it may not be yours. See the pictures below.

I have more tips and photos but you get the idea.

Buy a Dremmel pocket tool you are going to up to your elbows in plastic.

Do you even put your own gas in that bike Bart or do you go to full service ?

I've done it twice, it's an easy job.

Over simplified instructions:

Remove this piece and replace it with the new tail.

tail

Printed the instructions off the web. We used a dremel and a saw like a mini sawz-all. We spent 3 hours on it start to finish. We also had some shrink tubing for the wires, that was nice. electrical tape and sand paper to smooth out your cuts. Good luck!

OK, looks great. Change handling any at speed? Seems like it should smooth out rear airflow IMO. ?????????

Thanks for the help Dave. I never got a chance to install the undertail this past weekend. I did install it yesterday, took a couple hours to get everything completed. Fit and color match all good, it looks great too.

Dave,
What did you do to slow down the turn signals? Mine are flashing rapidly now with the led's in the undertail.

I put in a box that makes my tail lights signals too. As much as people say those LED's are bright you really can't see them in the sun and living here in the land of the blue hair town car drivers the more flashing I have behind me the better. Needlesss to say with that box in there it flashes at the regular rate. The unexpected bonus (at least I think it is) is that when the signal is on and the brake is applied I get the rapid rate flash again. I understand why it's happening and can fix it if I want to but I think it's a good idea.

Well...

Let's see this 2-loaf-a-bread haulin trunk. I took out my box and was not that impressed with the added space. I won't be putting it back but I was hoping for more!!!

Hey, we just had a group purchase for these at that other 12 site. I posted finished pics on this site today...follow this LINK. If you want to see my detailed thoughts and extra instructions, look for them on that other site under the group purchase thread. It's 11 pages long, so it shouldn't be hard to find on the first page or two.
