Your HP #'s

Hey guys,

Just wondering what some of your HP numbers are like. I'm a Suzuki GSX-R1000 owner and have heard of guys on the Gixxer.com site kicking the sh*t out of 12R's. I'm having a hard time believing that a 1K can beat a 12R, so I was just wondering what some of your HP and weight numbers are like. I'm also interested in doing a run with anyone here with a 12R with similar mods as mine.

Thanks

Akrapovic pipe, muzzy clutch and a shit load of other things here, and gearing. I'm pulling around 180 with all my mods. I hate to tell you this but I think the guys on that site are high. The gixxer would kill the 12 on a track, but not from a roll on or at the strip. I do like the 1000's though

*****NEWS FLASH*******

lol...yeah right. The only 12s getting beat are the ones with *slugs* riding them. Unfortunately for most GSXR owners, Im not afraid to rev my bike!!! So bye bye GSXtortureRack..lol
Ive raced a few, even have a few guys thinking they have a chance. But no dice, my bike has the following:
Stock motor
Muzzy full exhaust
K&Ns
PC3 (depending on weather)
stock gearing
stock wheelbase
heavy clutch springs

The GSXRs Ive run have had the same or better mods done. Straight up 50mph rollon, I can leave them for dead. They are fast and light, but the 12 has the upper hand. Its just as rev happy as the GSXRs. Oh and if you guys are doing the *3rd gear rollon* crap, forget it...the 12 is geared too high and the Gixxer will pull it on gear only...not hp. Put the 12 in the 8k range and it will rip the cheesy stickers right off the 1000!!!!

From what I've seen, the 12s run a few more mph at the strip than the gixxers.

HP

Muzzy 1270 BB kit, cleaned up head, matched and smoothed intake ports, Muzzy TI header, Muzzy high flow fuel pump ram air mod (no stock resonation down tubes or frontal screens, direct flow), Muzzy ignition advance rotor set at 5 degrees of ignition advance, K&N air filters, 92 octane gas chased with 8 oz of Koltz octane boost per tank. gearing is GP wheelie stuff at 17-50 combo.
Dyno'd to death at 193hp 110 ft/lbs of Torque, (this was without the assit of the new Muzzy HF fuel pump) SAE corrected without ram air. Uncorrected, (cheating), dyno'd at 198hp. I suspect the true "on road hp" at max rpm is approximatley 200+ at the rear wheel.
The problem with dynoing this beast is one set of FI map numbers, (typically leaner), give me big static dyno hp but the FI setup is too lean on the street, therefore I add 5% more fuel above 5,000rpm to compensate for the ramair effect.
Do I know if it's right - Have you ever tried to figure out if your motor is running at it's best on a open HWY, in top gear at 11,000rpm?....fuckin hell, I'm just hanging on!
Cheers,
Cliff

Cliff, there is no need to add any fuel for the ramair at speed. The map sensor will see any changes in the absolute pressure at the manifolds.

Cliff, put an o2 sensor on the bike and you will be shocked how rich the thing runs. I've gotten the A/F ratios real sweet but as you said driveability issues come into play.

I've been plotting the relationship of TPS voltage settings and A/F ratio corrections to see if a solid compromise can be reached. I've learned a thing or two about how this ECU "thinks".

Y2.....Are you saying that my ECU will atomatically alter the FI map,(which I have introduced via the PC3), to run richer and match the airflow at max rpm in top gear? If so, do you know the latitude of the enrichening program, or is it infinite?
Thanks,
Cliff

Cliff, not exactly. What the PC-III does is alter the "base numbers that the ECU works with. From those "base" numbers the ECU will use the info from 4 sensors to make corrections to the amount of fuel needed. These sensors are 1)intake air temp 2) coolant temp 3)intake manifold absolute pressure 4)barometric pressure.
The ECU has limited range of compensation. What that range is I dont know but I'm shure its more than enough.

So when the bike starts to produce ramair pressure the ECU will add fuel. likewise when the engines cold it will add fuel. Or if you drive up in the mountains say 6000 feet it will remove fuel.
But it doesnt ever change the base numbers. Thats the job of the PC-III.
So in theory the ecu should be able to compensate for using K&N airfilters but not for an aftermarket pipe.

Of course it was 99 degrees with 97 % humidity that day. Figure it's probably around 180 hp on avg street day.

Hp and Torque!!!!!

2000 Zx-12r with Muzzy Stainless/Ti oval, pc3r, K+N's, my map(Easy has it on site)

STANDARD HP - 180.93 & Torque 101.30 ft lbs.
SAE & EEC HP - 172.78 & Torque 96.74 ft lbs.
DIN HP - 175.48 & Torque 98.25 ft lbs.
Uncorrected HP - 172.69 & Torque 96.69 ft lbs.

Standard is what represent the air quality around the Lowermain. Thats at Sea level and the Average temp/pressure sits at 55 degrees and 29.92" HG. The dyno room is less than Ideal, small room and poor ventalation.

NOTE: Dynojet's previous and maybe current Winpep or PEP Viewers except for Version 7.0.7.8 has incorrect CF(correction factor) for STANDARD. They have been using 29.39" and 70 degree to correct to. It should be 29.92 and 59 degrees F. The new viewer seems to have addressed this problem.
