Top Speed question
Limited funds are keeping me from doing trackdays/roadracing so I'm looking for a new challenge. Thinking of drag racing and Maxton.
2002 ZX12R, stock motor, full Muzzy, PCIII, BMC filters, +2 rear, yellow box, and 27,000 miles on the original clutch and plugs.
I'll be changing the plugs and clutch soon as well as changing the gearing. With me weighing 150 pounds at 5'6" what kind of est. top speed would I be looking at in the mile?
Would a 20 or 30 shot be enough to get me even close to 200?

Depends on the day. On a good day, you should be right there.

I'm usually 25 pounds less than you.
That being said, BMC, PC3R, Full Muzzy, lowered a lil front/rear, and 18/45 with a 40 shot spraying 3rd thru 6th usually gets me 200-202 mph at Maxton.
"Even close to" and "200" are 2 very different things. Mis-shift or hit the rev limiter...knock off a couple mph. Headwind...forget it. Crosswind, probably not either.
I simply don't think 20 hp of nitrous is enough for most people although your size is a plus. Doug Meyer's mph out of a 12 aren't necessarily to be expected by all zx12 riders, even those that are small and skilled. It the entire combination of things. Even a 30 shot would be tough unless you had really good tailwinds.
Been at it on a 40 shot at Maxton for 2 years with minimal changes to my set-up HP-wise. 2.5 lb bottle, a 40 shot, good fuel, maybe 1-2 degree so of timing taken out if you are paranoid...check your fibers/steels while you're at it, and i fyou have time I'd do the colder spark plugs...your mind won't be worried about the motor and you can focus on nailing your shifts, tuck, spraying, etc.
18/48 which is what you said you had can not get you to 200 mph even with 2 miles. Based solely on the modifications you mentioned, you'd need 18/46 or 18/45. 18/48 will not even get you 197 mph on the rev limiter. In my opinion 18/44 isn't that bad if you have perfect conditions or a tailwind....but the problem is you are geared so tall that any little thing that goes against you (headwind, mistake, etc) and you can simply forget about 200 mph. I did do 200.9 mph with 18/44 once...my foot slipped off the footpeg in 6th...I swear it was a 205 mph pass but by the time I was able to pull my leg back to the peg I saw the rpms dip down and never fully gained enough revs by the time I trapped.
If you only WANT to do a 20-30 shot then 18/46 to 18/48 sounds great.
Best of luck
A.
