New ride for me
After 2 years riding 12s on public road, I thought long and hard about the next bike. I knew I wasn't going to consider a 2002 12, as it's been my experience that the State Gestapo in WA targeted sportbikes above any other vehicle. Our county sheriff and deputies were much friendlier towards sportbike riders, but I knew that as soon as I got onto the highway, I was a target. So I started looking at Sport Touring bikes. I considered the ST, the FJR, and of course, the ZZR. The ZZR won out over the other two. First, it was available. Second, it handled better, had more power, and was several thousand dollars cheaper.
My OTD was $10,700.

Cool!
At first I thought the new ZZR was a bit odd looking. But the look has kind of grown on me now. And then I started reading the good reviews about it. I think the silver colour is classy. Nice looking ride swft! -ZXtra

Thanks guys. It's gonna be a definate change in 'riding style'. Sorta like a 'lifestyle' change, but this one don't require tattoos or piercings.
Thinking about the Corbin bags and seat. Gotta lose the silver piping tho:

Nice bike Swft. I been wanting to buy one of those; mainly cuz of the engine (ZRX1200 w/ZX11-like head/carbs & HP) & wanting a "sport touring" bike that's more comfy than the ZX12R. So how about a lengthy "ride report?"
The only thing holding me back is $$$ & a good choice of bags. I don't like the look of the Givi's (ugly) or the Corbin's; & not much else available except for soft saddlebags. Problem is the ZX10/11 like tailpiece makes the big tail too wide w/bags (we MUST be able to "split lanes" around here w/the heavy-ass traffic.)
How much are the Corbin bags? $999? Those guys price themselves out of most folks market. Shame... Now if only someone (RKA?) would make a nice "matched" set of soft bags for this bike. You know you could probably get a "free" or heavily discounted set from RKA if you let them borrow the bike for a week or two...
Oh, bike above missing front fender...looks weird?

Hey Otis,
I'll have a ride report for ya after Laguna. Zhooligan is hauling the bike down for me, and I'm flying from work in Anchorage straight down to the bay area. The corbin bags are $699, and the seat is a total of $498. Seriously thinking about getting both of them.

damn swft, it's just one toy after another with u aint it?
my one concern regarding the "targetting" thing is that the zzr still looks alot like a sportbike, especially to someone as uneducated as ur average traffic cop. up here at least, the cops are so oblivious that they would have a hard time noticing the difference between a concours and a gsxr1k

I find myself wondering how "wide" the bike is with the bags installed? (for splitting lanes...)
So where you flying into? SFO? Going straight to Laguna? (is there a Laguna thread around here someplace?) I hadn't planned on going (broke), but if you guys are "inside" the Bay Area for any length of time, I could show you some of the roads around here. I'm on the East side near Oakland...

As a former denizen of Milpitas, I lived about 800 feet from the foothills on Yosemite. Guess where I started a nice weekend drive from? I'm going to prolly fly from Anchorage into San Jose, and get a ride straight to Monterey from there.

Ya think SWFT is gonna like the flames you put on it?

One of the ZRX guys just got his new ZZR and this is what he did. Definately different.

First off.....very nice bike, Swft. Being an owner of the silver ZX-12, I am a big fan of silver. I've been to Corbin and seen the beetle bags up close. They look sharp and do a good job matching the paint color. I just have a big problem with the tiny opening they have to put things in them. I would rather have something that opened up like a suitcase so I could put in larger objects (like a helmet for example). If you've seen the Honda ST1100....THAT is a nice, practical saddlebag.
If you go to the Corbin page you can see how wide the saddle bags are....at least for the ZX-12R. Not bad compared to some, but I'm also live in Calfornia (Livermore) and understand the importance of being slim to fit between cars.
The price ($699 for the bags?) coupled with the small opening that is only good for stuffing in clothes one piece at a time have steered me away from the Corbin bags. I like the looks personally and I can't say enough good about Corbin, but you gotta use what works.
