My clutch lasted about 5500 miles and about 30 passes at the strip.

Ok, how much does it cost to repl. clutch anyway?
And did you reuse factory basket?

I can only say what most have done...

... since I haven't replaced my clutch or basket.

Most folks that drag race their 12Rs replace their plates and basket with the Muzzy set-up. Since I don't drag race or do hard launchs (or wheelies), I still have the OEM basket, as well as the original steel plates and fibers. That's after 33K+ miles. Basically I use my clutch to start rolling and for about half of my downshifts.

"Durability" of the bike and it's engine components varies as radically as what kind of wear they get from a rear tire. Even some of those that are fairly anal about maintaining their bike have had a problem or two. Others haven't.

I'd have to say that I fall into the "Others" catagory. Besides the recalls of the leaking tank and faulty fuel gauge sensor ('00 A1 model) and general "wear and tear" items, I have not a single mechanical or electrical problem. Major or minor (knock on wood).

In the case of my '97 7R, it wasn't till 63K miles did I have a MAJOR repair. I had a bent shift fork. Since the dealer's mechanic knew how many miles was on the bike, he refused to do the extended warranty claim unless EVERYTHING from the input to output shafts were replace. Since we were not sure what the problem was until we split the cases, we chose to just replace everything so we would not have to do it again later on.

Though I traded in the bike for the 12R over two years ago, from what I understand, my old 7R is still rollin' and now has close to 85K on it.

Always remember the old saying, "results may vary".

I went 1800 miles and stock clutch started slipping at
higher RPMS at higher speeds ie: 5th and 6th gears 6k+ RPM
Dealer warranted the repair and I paid the difference between OEM and Muzzy kit... Not a single problem since!

ps I made several passes at the strip w/ only 30 mins
cool down between runs, which I have now been told is
no enough.

i was about to say mine is still fine at almost 30,000kms, but i did notice that i had a real hard time gettin to speed yesterday. made a couple attempts at a top speed pass and best i could get was 290kph indicated. it was still pulling, but really slow. couple years ago i'd get to 310 in the time it took me to get to 270 yesterday. perhaps the clutch is slipping. hmmm...

25,000 miles and no major repairs. Just a new stator under warranty. A shit load of tires and oil changes.
