MPEG of a 12R running 9.34.

It's a video of me and my bike, with a stock motor, stock tire and stock swingarm. Great weather though.

Thanks to Peter De La Mare for hosting.

Some folks have had trouble running the file, and it seems to be related to older versions of Windows Media Player, or other players that are out of date.
If you have trouble, you can download a free Media player upgrade from Microsoft.com, or email me and I can send you my WMP. (256k)

UPDATED LINK

For those who couldn't run the newer version of MPEG-2 up there, here is another link. It's to an MPEG-1 file of the same run.

BA.......Very exciting frankly. I've watched your run a number of times you make it look so smooth, job well done. Wheelies in the first 3 gears, is that due to the added grip of the track surface or your mill, speaking of which please tell us about your motor and the bike, as prepared for the strip.
Thanks,
Cliff

{{{{trying to be ever so modest}}}} It's only wheelying in 2 gears. But the front did come up 3 times. Once on launch, then it touched down around 7-8k rpm, then a small power wheelie at 1st gr upper powerband,...then right when it touched the second time I shifted to second gear and it (obviously) came up one more time. God I love watching that!

I have to admit, it ain't always that easy! There's other film of killer clutch slippage, long 1st gr wheelies, etc.
I'm going to try to post those soon too. (9.35, 9.38x2, 9.45)

The bike dyno's at 172hp on a DJ150 model. (I'd call it 'not spectacular', but not bad either)

HMF pipe, K&N's, PCIIIR and Kennedy links. Stock motor.
Gearing is just a -1T up front for now. I think it needs +1 in the back over the winter.
The rear shock is stock, but I've adjusted it for my body weight at the track.

Prep for the track is:
1. Remove mirrors.
2. Lower the rear via the Kennedy's
3. Strap the front.

Ready to go!

Also, I RIDE the bike to the track,......every week.
All the Busa's and GSXR's are TRAILORED.

Ain't nuttin like beatin' the trailored bikes with your RIDER. heheee

From what I've seen, you might also embarass a hell of a lot of other bikes, including our resident drag racer KingZX12 and his 250hp NOS motor!
Cheers,
Cliff

BA......Is your rear brake light on in the video or it just the lightning conditions and sensistivity of the camera?
Secondly, at what rpm do you typically launch the bike for such a perfect run and do you shift without the use of the clutch, once fully engaged in first?
Again, quite an exciting video to watch BA, thanks. I wish we had more of them and I'd love to see a 12 run a sub 9 second pass on video.....Any volunteers?
Thanks,
Cliff

Cliff, Please! I don't stand a chance against Wayne's NOS bike! Now, if I had me one of King's NOS kits', then we'd be talking!! (hmmmm. did someone say "Sponsor"??)

Seriously, I thought he was usually well into the 8's on that bike. That one race against Suprenant in Canada was in some bad weather, right?

My tail light looks bright because a friend gave me some of those 'extra bright' tail light bulbs for free. I really haven't decided if I like them or not. But, at least the brake light is even brighter.....
I wish I could tell you I was riding the rear brake through the whole video to keep the front end down! lol

A lot of people ask about the RPM thing. I'm just not sure though. I go by the RPM sound, and the 'lightness' of the front end, on the launch. My guess would be 4000-6000.
You're right, every gear is manually shifted, no clutch.

I've been talking to Wayne too, I hope he see's your post. heheeh
I'm finishing up the other runs on video now....

Thanks for the compliments Cliff, and everyone else too.

BA.......My note was meant to get Wayne's attention, (I'm just fuckin with him), he's a friend of mine.
Frankly, I find the whole motorcycle drag racing thing rather facinating from the prospective that one slight mistake and you're done. It would appear that wheelies are the biggest deterent to a good time.
BA could you walk us thru the run and if possible, (I certainly can't see it), identify where you feel you could have maybe been even faster, if that's possible! For instance did the first wheelie cost you time?
Thanks,
Cliff

my observation...........

Honestly Cliff, just watch my right arm in the video. Watch it about 5 times, listening to the RPMS. Ok, well, 5 more times!

I think I could have done two things better.

1. Not enough clutch slippage. Sure it looks good, and sure, the time is nice. But my 60' was 1.57 and could have, maybe SHOULD have been a 1.55. I didn't slip the clutch enough, and you can hear it on the video. Hell, you can HEAR it engage, and the engine is not at the RPM I would have wanted it.

2. As to watching my right arm,....watch it, and watch the front tire too. I think,..IMHO, that I could have rolled into the gas slightly quicker.

Lastly, is it just me, or does the 1-2 shift not sound quick enough?? Watch closely and you can see that I 'jerked' on the clip-on's on that shift. A long time problem for me.... <<<>>> Something I need to work on. Pretty wheelie though....

Ba....The funniest part of the video is the very end, when the young kid yells out "bastard"! Must have been a Busa fan. Either that, or I'm been playing the fuckin video backwards and it's some kind of satanic verse.
I've got to give the strip a try next summer, fuck it looks like fun.
As always,
Cliff
