Tire Wear

Motorcycle tires piss me off! It seems like you can only get a couple of thousand miles on one before it looks like it might be unsafe to use, whats that all about!
Here's my question how far down do you let your tires get before you replace?
I'm using the Bridgestone 010 and replace when it shows any of the wear indicators.

Funny you should ask this tonight, I just came in from the garage. Dunlop 208 with 2763 miles and there ain't much left on this one. Note the trademark Florida wear pattern.

Looking at that Florida wear pattern, you might as well be running AVONs!!!

u'll prolly get more useful info by doing a search for old threads on tire wear. there have been many long & useful threads on the subject, and u'r just not that likely to get too many people replying here simply because it's been rehashed so many times. altho i'm about to go & start a similar thread myself (BAD frEEk!!). here's a good recent thread: http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=1&TID=3122

I know the tire question has been discussed at length but the twist I am putting on it is, at what point of the tire wear do you decide to replace. What do you think?

It just gets more frustrating

Becuase it seems to depend on the tire brand. In the case of Dunlop and Metezler, small little slits, that are perpendicular (sp?) will appear in the center of the tread. If you see these, GO HOME NOW! It won't belong before your shown chords.

In the case of Michelin, no such slits will appear and just when you think you'll be showing chords, the tire will be "good" (more like "usable") for another 300+ miles.

Sadly, I can't tell you anything about the Bridgestones. Sorry. Ninjaman is the one you need to ask (i.e. "PING: Ninjaman"). He uses the Bridgestones and due to his TN hoolaganisms, has gone through quite a few. He even has done a thread on how fast he goes through them. I don't think that he mentions what they look like when he "retires" them, though.

Don't Let This Happen To You!!!

This was a result of some pretty poor planning on my part. I rode my bike to Deals Gap after putting on 1500+ hard miles on my tire. This resulted in my tire leaving me stranded 150 miles from home on the return trip!!!!!

When the tire are worn down to the tread wear indicators you should have another tire ready to put on because they seem to wear at a faster rate once they hit the indicators.
