Just got my ZX12r

Hey all,

I'm brand new to this site and I'm also a proud new ZX12r owner. I used to have the 929RR and it just wasn't big enough for me.

I've already made a couple mods to the bike to clean it up a little. Hacked off the fender (who doesn't do this), got a clear tail light, turn signal integrator kit, flush mounts on the front.

What I'm looking for is advice on the loudest, best performing exhaust system for this bike. Does anyone know if you can get frame sliders on this thing?... doesn't look like it. Also, which is the best steering damper for this bike. I had the Scots on my 929 and it worked great. Just wondering about the Ohlins and any others. Do I want to put the big bore kit on it? Do I want to put a Muzzy clutch on it?

Needing help here from experienced ZX12r owners.

Welcome

First welcome aboard Now you are going open a can of worms with the "What is the Best Stuff." I love the hindle for pipes they are cheaper then the acro, and weigh less too.

To make your life easy rememeber everything you buy for your 12 is no different then a bottle of wine. $150 for Opus One maybe your taste, We others get just as much pleasure from Boone's Farm (screw top).

In the end it's your money and your choice, do your research and spend it wisely.

Money us generally not an issue. If it's going to make this bike a mean street machine that will win at the drags, I'll spend it to get it there. All I have left at that point is to get used to the bike and how it performs.

Welcome aboard guy. If I still lived in the bay area I would definitely consider mods just to stay in the upper echelon (it makes me feel like a man and I have a small....uh, never mind). Out here in rural America there is only one other 12 and he is slower. I'm king in this county. I can't use all the power of the beast in the twisties but down the long straights I long for more power. You sound like a man with the same thirst. Ask lots of questions and save a buck or two. We're here to serve.

BTW, howdy and glad to see you here! The two big choices in pipes right now is Akro or Muzzy. There will be guys who'll blow smoke up your ass regarding one pipe or the other, but everyone agrees that the muzzy pipe is louder. The Scott's damper is the best, but not the easiest to mount. The two best choices are either the muzzy's damper or the scotss, with the scotts taking the prize for adjustability, and the muzzys for ease of installation.
1270 kit? I've got over 4000 miles on my kit, with no probs. Runs great on pump gas! A friggin monster! Last dyno session showed 196hp at the back tire.

Geez Louise,

If I had known I was gonna get razzed like this, I definitely would have chosen a different handle. hehe

Just so you all know I didn't join a gay riders club.... BECAUSE I'M NOT GAY!!!! At least I don't think I did... did I???? hehe

Anywho... I'm getting my first service done this Saturday morning. I've had my bike for exactly one week now and I have 1000 miles on it already. Before I got through the first weekend, I had over 600 miles on it. It definitely needs it's first service.

I've been meeting up with some buddies in Sacramento every Friday and Saturday night for several months now because I don't know many people in the bay area who like to go out and ride on a weekend night. I'd rather not travel that far just to ride on the weekend evenings. However, I don't know of any clubs or groups that meet out here in the bay area. If that group of yours meets at that place every Saturday morning, I'll probably join you sooner or later. By the way, if anyone would like to ride over there with me some weekend, let me know where to meet you and we'll cruise over there. It's usually a pretty big group of guys out there and most of them are pretty friendly to outsiders.

Keep it on one wheel!!!

Welcome!!

Welcome to the family!!!

You can get frame sliders if your willing to cut your side panels!!!! That be a no for me!!!

Performance -

Awesome performance / Loudest exhaust- Muzzy
Most HP / Mild tone - Akropovic my choice

Steering dampner - Scott's again my choice

You may as well wait till ya burn up the stock clutch before ya put the Muzzy in. You will burn it up!!! that's what I did

Thanks for all the input,

Does anyone know anything about the Micron serpentine exhaust? I've heard that it competes with the Akarapovic and exceeds it's performance specs. I've also heard that it competes with Muzzy for a nice loud sound.

I'll probably be going with a Power Commander IIIr and a K&N filter as well. I was also thinking about getting a cam kit and a big bore kit as well. Any advice?

Hindle Exhausts

I've been looking around for prices on the Hindle system. I haven't been able to find any. Does anyone know how it performs to the Muzzy, Akarapovic, and Micron?
