Psycho1122 - have you had any problems starting your hi-comp motor> Are you still using just the OEM battery?

No problems starting the engine. The ONLY time I ever had it turn over slow was on a drag nite. Temps were warm 80's - low 90's and I had made a few quick passes with little cool down time or running time to recharge battery.
I run a "Deka" Glass Mat Tech. battery. Always on a battery tender.

Psycho = Sounds good. What comp is your motor? Cranking pressure? Cams? What have you done to the head? Running a Muzzy fuel pump I gather?
Thanks!

CR is close to 14:1, Cranking pressure is / was 230-235 per hole cold, cams are stock 105.5 in. / 100 ex. Head has only cleaned up intake ports and a Muzzy fuel pump.

Hey entropy;
well, maybe.....the last time I pulled the head, the piston tops had a bare shinny spot on the exhust side quench area. Very small with no carbon build up. I called and talked to someone we would consider very expirienced in this area (Doug)......It was a very cool response....."That's PERFECT!" he said. So I stayed with the same combo / set up.
Hmmm, that was OVER 12,000+ miles and 6 years ago. It will still put down over 190 h.p. and 111 ft. lbs on a bad day and a stingy dyno! Oil pressure still holds 35-40 psi at 4,000 rpm / 80+ at redline depending on overall temp and time on oil.
I wonder how long it will live?!?

I am putting things together to make a run in spring of 2010!
I need to make some strides with the Ninja Hauler.

Oct is generally better, but then again, last Mar was the best weather yet
what's a "Ninja Hauler"?

My good 'ol 96 Dodge Dakota.
196,000 miles on it. Just put in an Auburn 3:55 posi. on the rear end rebuild. Driveshaft just received it's first new Spicer universals and a rebalance. Looks like the 5 speed manual needs some work also.....some kind of bearing noise and the synchros have started to act up after all these years of hard shifting! The original front rotors and rear drums need to be replaced (Updated), belts, hoses and new tires on the 17" R/T wheels I just got for it.
One good thing is the 5.2 bullit still runs strong! Dynoed at 275 h.p. not bad RWHP for a uncorked stocker w/ all the miles!!
So what do you do?!? Keep the good 'ol runner with no payment and cheap insurance / tags or go with something newer?!?
I do like the Dakota....it ran high 14's BEFORE the posi + gears and still gave 20 mpg.

I know what I would do! Keep the good ole runner!
my copcar just turned 170,000 and i have no qualms about towing a a couple bikes to Caribou Maine (4800 mi round trip)
my daughter's Cherokee just turned 200,000 and she has no thoughts about trading it in.
we like the "ole runners"

Im really wanting to find a junkyard 360 magnum to build to replace the 318.... hmmm 408 stroker? someday....
