Regulator\Rectifier might be on the way out or you Stator might be failing. If you haven't got a manual you can download one, it has procedures for checking these items.

Given all the trouble people have had with melting alternator connectors I would start there. These bikes were leaking oil through the alternator cable. Besides being a rear wheel oil hazard it also seeped into the connector causing the connections to increase their resistance and heat up under load eventually toasting the connector.

There are three wires and if any one fails you will still get voltage out of the rectifier/regulator into the battery but you will only have 1/3 the normal current.

In the US the first sign of this was usually the mysterious headlight failure. The headlights are always on on the US models but to give the bike more starter power when you first turn on the key the headlights are off. The circuit monitors the voltage on one of the three alternator wires and when the engine is spinning fast enough to generate voltage it turns on the headlight relay. When the alternator connector goes bad the headlight relay never gets the signal to turn on.

There are three wires and if any one fails you will still get voltage out of the rectifier/regulator into the battery but you will only have 1/3 the normal current.

On the other site, Kaw12 bought a ricks stator... Turned out
to be bad... they had obviously had several issues
because they refunded his money ...
So if you have an aftermarket... I would look there first
your results may vary
