Where and how much is the reserve gas tank?
My previous model Ninjas always had a manual selector to turn on the reserve gas tank in case you ever needed it. I dont see one on the 12.
And if the 12 is supposed to have a 5 gallon gas tank, how come I can barely put 4 gallons in it when I fill up cause its on the last fuel bar.
So when you get down to just one fuel bar left shown on the display, does it automatically kick in the reserve portion of the tank? And how many miles can you go on that last fuel bar when it is all that is left shown?

I struggled with this a bit as well. The tank has no traditional reserve switch. When you see the last bar of the tank blinking you can think of yourself on reserve, and better find a gas station asap. I think the manual says that you have .6 gallons left, but I actually ran out of gas on my way to class one night, and it was less than 10 miles from work. So, that being said, there may have been .6 left when the indicator started blinking, but that doesn't mean you can use all .6 gallons. 
I think that would also answer your question regarding the volume. If you're not getting to the point where the last bar actually blinks, you've probably still got a gallon or so left in the tank.
Sometimes, reading the owner's manual is a good thing.
